the canon one is around £100
the cheap one is £30

I dont expect the build quality to be the same, but would like to save some money on anything that doesn't affect IQ

wont affect IQ. theres alot of people on here who have bought them and said that they are really good some say even better than the branded ones however you go too cheap and the shutter release wont work.
 
Hi Rich, I've got a cheap Phottix grip on my 450D and I've been exceedingly pleased with it. OK, the rubber's showing a little wear when the camera rubber looks pristine, but for the price difference it's well worth it IMHO.
 
I use one on a pentax K20d and its fine, at three times cheaper than an original manufacturers one you cant go wrong.

easy tiger, i dont think it was meant in any offensive way more of a generic far eastern manufactured item.

edit -removed. i was talking about just the batteries and not the grip. doh.
 
they're pretty good, pretty much exact clones of the official ones, work fine, just make sure you get a version with the aperture / shutter speed wheels, as the absolute cheapest ones don't have these... might need to look out for the 'pro' version.

the official ones are massively overpriced by canikon etc purely because they know that they can...
 
I use a chinese grip and i can't fault it, neither can i tell any differences between it and a genuine canon grip.

One of the favourite 'tricks' of the trade with fake or copied good is the factory that has the contract for making all the legitimate parts will deliberately over produced, seen as they have all the correct tooling. The correct number will then be sent to the customer (canon) and the extras will be packaged up and sold as a pattern parts at a cut price, but direct as an additional income.

This dosn't guarantee every shonky product will be as good as the original, but it does happen.

Moving away from the minefield that is political correctness and back to the topic at hand....

I've got a 'Linkdelight' one, and I really can't fault it, the textured bits feel of a higher quality than they are on the 450D body, and there's no flimsiness whatsoever. If the genuine one is better, to be honest I'd be supervised, and if it's 3 times better, I'd be utterly gobsmacked! Save your cash, and get a copy!

I have the same one, think it was about £45. Has all the functions of the Canon one, looks the same, works the same. Great investment!

I got a new battery for my Macbook like this and as far as I can see it's identical (but half the price)

I think that I saw someone say that some of the knock-offs are better than the originals, as they don't have a flimsy plastic gear that strips, it is metal.
 
i have a yongnuo one i got off here , to be honest , if you put canon badges on it i reckon you would be hard pushed to tell it is 3rd party :D

Me to although 1st one did not work, seller sent a replacement which is 100%.
all for £31 and £11 for 2 batteries.
 
Tricky, where did you get your Link Delight one from? was it a UK store?
 
Link Delight is an eBay seller, good one to deal with too.
 
I had a phottix one for my 5DMk2 it was very good for the money and 1/3 of the price of the Canon one. If I decide to get a grip for my 7D it will be a Phottix.
 
I used to had both the original canon and phottix that I sold last year. After selling them, I bought another chinese brand grip as I had phantom grip syndrome. The brand is Meike Its the same as the phottix and has worked great for almost a year now.
 
I have a Phottix one for my 40d. Compared to the Canon version i prefer the rubber stippling on the grip. The shutter release is equally poor to the canon version, the scroll wheel doesn't have enough resistance.

I would buy another Phottix one in a flash. I think it cost about £40 and has done one season of motorsport for me and is still going strong.
 
ok i just tried "battery grip" instead of link delight in ebay search and found them. You think they'd want to be found by name surely? anyway thanks for the tip

you have to do an advanced search by seller name for "link-delight" for it to show up in a search.

although you have to get the name 100% right even with close matches turned on. which makes it a bit of a useless ebay feature but hey.
