I want to buy a small decent camera that I can use to take some pictures or videos of me at work in the studio. I need to be able to leave it to do the work itself on a tripod.

I don't want to spend too much as it won't get any more use than this.

I remember I use some cheap Panasonic (around £100) that is water proof to do some time lapse stuff outdoor. Works well and it does the job. You can always use it for outdoor time lapse without worrying the camera will be damage.

I think I'm just going to try using my smartphone with an app to see if that works. I've ordered a little tripod for it so hopefully that will provide a cheaper option to buying a dedicated camera.

I was just about to say the same.
