Cheap Bean to Cup Coffee Machine - anyone?

Thats not a bad price at all - we have the earlier model at work (two off) and they are very reliable considering the hammering they're getting. 5 years old now...

Yep would have one myself but seem unable to kill my 9 year old gaggia

We’ve got the delongi as well... had it about 5 years and it never fails...

Do people seriously drink that much coffee to warrant £100's on a machine?
I have a cafetiere ( At the back of the cupboard) but normally for the odd cup or two per day I'll drink
Kenco Millicano

Do people seriously take that many photos to warrant a £3500 camera? Normally I take 2-3 shots a day so I've got a £50 point and shoot at the back of the cupboard.

;)

I wouldn't pay that for a camera!
But at least its more useful than a coffee machine

I think someone is telling porkies ;)
But you may also have a £50 P&S..

Quite simply, yes.
I can't stomach instant now, no matter how "posh".

That's exactly the machine I have. It's excellent and that's a ridiculous price for it. Buy.

I watched a couple of YuoTube videos of it, is it really that loud? sounds like some industrial metal works going on.

The ones at work are no noisier than the tassimo I have at home.

I tried that, couldn't get on with it, but coulkdn't justify the £320-350 for a bean to cup so went with a tassimo. Acceptable middle ground

Don't you smoke that in like a month though?

I used to have that one (DeLonghi 4200) which gave many years of service before breaking down; I replaced it with the current one (DeLonghi 2800) which was referenced in the OP.

As far as I can tell they are essentially the same machines mechanically, with some relatively minor cosmetic differences. And the grinder is definitely not silent! Nor is the brewing process as the water is pressurised and pumped through the grounds. We remodelled the house a couple of years ago to create an open-plan kitchen / diner / lounge, and we sited the coffee machine in the furthest corner away from the living area, but even so it can drown out the TV when it's operating. But it's not for long and it's a price worth paying for the results.

A bean to cup machine appeals, but I'm happy with my nespresso machine, its quick and makes as good a cup of coffee as I've ever tasted. Well, with the exception of the little Italian cafe in Ilkley I occasional frequent.

They can be a bit noisy the budget machines, its all down to the components for sure.
open plan yeah that will be hard work, big savings to be had with machine like this as just feeding it beans which even good quality can be very reasonable.

Touche' :D

Co-incidentally, according to the radio earlier 4 cups per day appears to lessen the risk of some cancers..
It wasn't that long ago I seem to remember that, that amount of coffee was "harmful"
One day they'll make their minds up ;)

Depends who's funding the research. We believed them when they said that wine could be benificial till we found out the alcohol industry funded the research...

I have a double expresso every morning with sugar and milk and it ...... moves me along....

Who cares ?, what ever we eat, drink etc. it will either kill us or make us healthier depending on the latest fad finding.
We've all got to die sometime, why not enjoy our time here

There's a running list of all the things the daily fail have said have caused or prevented cancer. Usually the same!

And if we slavishly followed every bit of advice as to what we should avoid, we'd probably die of malnutrition!

Ain't buying one to find out :)

Got one of the OP models from Argos today, made a fine cup of coffee once I'd interpreted the flashing lights properly, bloody noisy but quick.
Enjoy!

Like I said, the 4200 with the so-called "silent" grinder and the 2800 you've just bought are essentially the same machine. I guess it's possible that if you measured it with lab equipment you'd find that one was noisier than the other, but for practical purposes "bloody noisy but quick" describes both of them.

The grinder isn't the noisy bit anyway, the pump is the culprit.

We thought hard about a Nespresso machine when our first bean-to-cup machine died. But in the end t just didn't seem to make any economic sense to us. The bean to cup machine was more expensive, but the coffee is cheaper, and we estimated the payback period to be between 6 months and a year. If you don't drink as much coffee as we do in our house, the Nespresso maybe starts to look more attractive.

I've got a Nespresso myself, the only real issue is you have to pay the premium for the Nespresso brand or live with poor quality pods and you're stuck with someone else's idea of what good coffee is. The b2c lets me choose my own beans, the strength I want and the size of cup.

Or even espresso. ;)
Milk in espresso? Lightweight. :D

There are some better quality 3rd party pods available now, certainly more than there were a few years ago. I find there is plenty of variety including beans, strength and size. Each to their own I suppose.

Enjoy!

oooh! I was ready to rant and rage but it turned out to be a simple fix (for me) The new machine started showing the Tank Empty light all the time and of course the thing won't work at all if it thinks there's no water in it. A bit of googling showed that it's a fairly common issue and easily fixed if you're prepared to take the back panel off. Basically the connector on the 3 wire cable from the pressure sensor can be a bit loose and giving it a bit of a wiggle sorted it.

Can you help?

The Missus is recently into her coffee, can you recommend some beans for bean to cup?

Taste is a very personal thing, what I like she might not. I reckon you're pretty safe with a Columbian coffee though, it's smooth and has no bitterness usually.
If you're buying that machine from this thread, sign up to the coffee club as per the offer and they'll send you three packs of coffee to try free.

Not a coffee drinker myself so this is all new to me haha.

As above, it's personal taste.

My standard coffee is raja batak from Monmouth Coffee but others can't stand it. I usually buy some Lavazza Espresso beans too vary the options at times.

If you're asking because you are buying, I'd head to the supermarket and buy their own brand Columbian beans, safe bet. After that let your wife choose for herself, she'll have fun finding out what she likes and what not. If you want to spend a bit more, do the same thing but add a voucher to one of the on-line coffee suppliers that she can spend on what she wants.
