Obviously I know that generally you get what you pay for but wondered if anyone uses after-market batteries, I've seen some cheap ones on ebay (less than £5 but are they any good or would you avoid them with a barge-pole (so to speak)?

Anonymous e-bay ones, I would avoid like the plague!

From reputable suppliers (7dayshop and Amazon [although not Amazon Marketplace]), you may pay a little more but still far less than original manufacturers charge.

Weiss batteries are pretty good, not cheap and not knock off either. they specialise in Li-on batteries of all kind and sizes. so I think they are quite reliable.

I've posted this before but the Duracell Canon replacement batteries are very good. Reasonably priced but with a large battery manufacturer's name on them...

I've only ever bought after market batteries (aside from the one which comes with the camera)

Usually I only buy from Amazon after reading some good reviews. So far I haven't been disappointed. Generally though I've found that despite what they claim as the capacity that they don't last as long as the original. And certainly on the Sony ones I have, the accuracy of the charge is not consistent.

So what i mean is sometimes it will drop sharply. Say 25% to flashing none at me. Or 100% one day then wake up and it's 80% the next.

But given the massive price difference those are not important to me. The theory for me is that I can take more photos with 3-4 after market batteries than with 1 extra genuine one.

I think it's Ansman batteries that are made in the EU (Germany IIRC) rather than the far East.

TBH, though, although I always carry a spare for the camera(s) I'm carrying, I rarely need to change them "on the fly", since I keep an eye on the levels and recharge when they drop below 1/2 full.

I've just seen on amazon a 600D battery grip with 4 batteries for less than £30 - seems to have good reviews too...

In stock.
Dispatched from and sold by standbyon (ships from USA).

So, it's NOT from Amazon but from one of their foreign resellers.

Personally, I would say that puts them just one step up from e-bay unless you have previous experience with the company.

But, it's your money and your choice!

Nod.
