Yes
Off for a couple of weeks in the highlands. I will be getting a Canon compatible car charger but of course this will only charge when I am in the car.

Any advice?

In most cars the power sockets are not switched via the ignition, so you can leave it overnight and it will charge.

Not on an Audi I think. Checked and then read the manual. I have 2 cigaretter lighter sockets and a 12V socket and all will only work when ignition is switched on.

In that case, i could either re-wire an existing socket, or install a new one to run direct from the battery.

Or take a shed load of batteries. A 7d battery will do quite a few shots. I have had up to 700 from a 3rd party one from 7dayshop and more from the official canon.

Could try one of these. I take one with me when camping to charge phones and anything else that can be charge through a cigaretter lighter socket/usb combo.

Had this one for 2 years, only charged it once, but it used it so many times. From blowing up tyres to infltable beds and starting a few cars and 4x4's.

I'd go for the multiple battery option too!

I've got a £9.99 7dayshop battery and I get pretty much the same number of shots from that as I do the original. On two batteries I reckon I could easily get 1200 shots, although I wouldn't be using the on-board flash for those.

You will be going some to run down more than a couple canon batteries.

Besides, you'll be too busy swatting midges.

I would suggest many batteries, I've been away for a weekend and taken over 2500 photos and not run the batteries out, I use a battery grip and took the majority of photos (no flash) on the first pair of batteries.

Take your normal charger with you, when you nip to the local for a pint or three make sure you pick a table by the wall with a mains socket for the cleaners. . . . cheeky but it works

Are you staying in campsites? If so, what about a mains hook up...

Yes, I've called a few this morning and some say they can offrer a charging service overnight, some have mains hook-up. I'm thinking now that I only need one spare battery. Even if out in the wilds for a day or so I should be fine.

Just properly read your email on a full screen and clicked on the link. This looks like a damn good idea for the occassional bigger site I will be staying in as I can also edit my pictures on my laptop overnight. Good price too. Thank ee

:plusone:

I do this every week with my iPhone in my local so a Canon charger shouldn't be a problem.

FYI my Audi sockets work when the ignition is off (10 plate A3)
