My Nikon D40's a couple of years old and its had very light use. (I bought it as a holiday camera that was an alternative to dragging bigger bodied cameras round so its been on a couple of trips and is a standby body that stays in the car when I'm shooting)

The last couple of times I've charged the battery (EN EL9) it seems to have taken an absolute age. Tonight, for instance, the battery seemed to be around 75% down so I put it on charge and it took nearly 3 hours before the charger's light stopped flashing.

is this normal?

I've got the same model of cam as yourself and mine is in light to moderate use and have had it 1½ yrs - however, the battery has never taken round 3 hours to charge. As with most rechargeables, they eventually fail to work/charge - it may be time to purchase a new battery!

Thanks for your feedback, Helen. I'm reaching the same conclusion. The batteries in my D300 take just over an hour to charge if I'm doing so from flat so I think there's something wrong with the D40's battery.

Time for an online mooch I think.
