What you have to wonder is, if the same number of people had died in, say Lebanon, as a result of a US air strike, would it have received the same coverage, for so long?
I doubt it, but purely because it would have been an organised military strike rather than a militant, extremist group. Military matters IMO quickly get swept under the carpet and I think there's sometimes an 'oh well, it's a shame but it happened' attitude when military action is taken.
The most disturbing thing for me about 9/11 was the fact there have been some audacious plans to terrorise cites before but not in such a balls-out, story book way. You couldn't have made it up, flying two passenger jets into a set of skyscrapers but I suppose that's why it was such a shock.
...sometimes it only seems to be newsworthy if those who die are white Americans....
