For all sorts of reasons, I'm about to change mobile phone providers. As I already own a nice phone, I've gone for a SIM only deal, which means I get a new SIM with a new number, with the option to change back to my old number. Or I can keep the new one. Anyone done this? Did you change and/or was it a pain in the neck to keep your old number? Any experiences or comments gratefully received. Thanks all.

I've always kept my number, I changed to sim only last year and it was fine, I think I just registered my number I wish to keep and they activated it :)

I've kept my same number now for several phones and contracts.

wish my bloody kids would do that ,one daughter has two children the three of them have a new i-phone each every two years and each time its a new number drives me insane

Keeping your number is easy, just ask your old provider for a PAC code then give it to your new provider. Usually takes a day (2 tops) and it'll just switch over, probably without you even noticing. Had the same number for 20 years, would be a massive pain to let all my contacts know if I changed my number.

Haha yes mine are the same it is a nightmare, in fact my son as just upgraded so I don't even know if he's got a new number or not, I'm sure he will ring when he wants something lol

Thanks all. The new SIM arrived this morning (pretty impressed as I only ordered it yesterday morning) and the new number is somehow nicer than the old one. I don't have a huge business network etc to inform, so might make a change.

You and me both :(
Why do they feel the need?
Even within the same provider, they (Well my son is the worst TBH) change numbers with the new phone.

And as above, its "seam-less" to change providers and numbers.
