No
wife is looking to change her passport to married name cost will be north of £80 taking into account check and send service, special delivery return on marriage certificate etc.

however her original/current one expires early next, does that mean another £80 will be required to renew that one, or does the new one get a nee expiration date?

don't think so - Sharon (Other half) changed hers in nigh on 4 years back and got a new one with 10 yrs on it....... however it may have changed now..

I travelled in my maiden name and carried our Wedding Certificate with me until 9 months before my passport expired (as we were going to Oz on holiday and I had less than 6 months on it by the time we got back). When I sent it off for renewal, I got 10 years and 8 months on it (it took them 3 weeks to change).

I'd wait until nearer it's expiry date because she can still travel with 2 forms of ID as a passport.

Sorry didn't read it properly. As it runs out early next year, she should be able to get away with a renewal and change at the same time as I did. Just check when's the earliest it can be renewed. Bear in mind that you have to send the current passport away with Marriage Certificate, photo and stuff, so she can't travel outside the country without special permission until the new passort comes back.

thanks

the complications is that we are sorting one out for our baby 1 year old and she has put new marrigage name on it

she had filled it in as a change of name. i hope they might see that it needs renewing next year so they stamp it for another 10 years not expiration next year

When the wife changed hers a few months ago, she got it back with a full 10 years on so should be ok. drop them a mail or a quick call to be certain though

My wife's just sent of hers to be changed into her new name - I'd be quite annoyed if they didn't renew it for £80! They ask you to send an up to date photo, so I can't see any reason why it wouldn't be.

The part I can't understand is where the form says "the passport fee includes sending your new passport by secure delivery. Your supporting documents will be sent second class. If you would like these to be sent securely there will be an extra charge". Why can't they put them all in the same envelope?!!

when i changed my name on my passport (first name) its the same proceedure, you get a full 10 years on it, plus an additional month i think for every year remaining on your existing passport, so i ended up with 10 years and 6 months on mine

If they put them all in the same envelope and they got lost then you could really lose your identity - at least this way if some of it goes missing so does only part of the documentation.

I think that the documents might come from different places, I know there was a query with my last renewal because they had made a mistake on the previous one and I think my documents went to Ireland somewhere, Halifax and whereever I originally sent them - still got it back within about ten days though

because they send your docs back earlier than your completed new passport

once your passport docs have been checked they send them back to you and your passport then joins a queue to be made.
