Was hoping one of you knowledgeable guys would be able to tell me the best tool to use to remove the old one's. Also, do the thin channels they come from need a clean before I stick the new one's in, if so what do you use?
My OM 10 and recently purchased Contax need doing..

Thanks in advance

I bought a kit of the bay which had a long wooden scraper which seems to work well. It came with some adhesive remover but I believe a little lighter fluid works perfectly.

That was quick.. Thanks Andy, I shall have a look

Edit: I have some lighter fuel, somewhere

I use wooden cocktail sticks or the slightly larger kebab skewers cut into a flat-head screwdriver shape, lighter fuel or isopropyl alcohol to soften the gunk. You definitely want to clean all the old gunk ouy of the channels before you attempt to fit the new ones. Jon Goodman, drop him an email JGood21967@aol.com, who I buy all my seals from, he will send you a step by step guide for your camera if you buy your seals from him, he's based in Texas but his seals are good value and a top bloke to deal with.

He doesn't have a site at the moment, I believe it's a work in progress but he's a member on here. Just drop him an email with your requirements and he'll get back to you pretty quickly. I've been buying my seals from him for the last 4 years and have always been very happy with his products, his communication and speed of delivery, an all round good egg.

Cheers Andy. I'v just emailed Jon Goodman and told him what camera's they're for, so I'll wait to see if he gets back to me, if not ebay here I come..

I had a set from John and it was excellent, but i had a few cameras to do so it was cheaper to buy the set and cut my own.

Get the pre-cut ones, having done a couple of ones where i cut the seals myself, i won't be doing it again if i can help it, it's a fiddly pain in the arse and not worth the effort for the sake of a few quid on pre-cut ones.

I got a Nikon FE recently that needed the seals doing, luckily i have an official Nikon licensed repair shop nearby so he's redoing the seals for £15.

Oh and when it comes time to remove the old seals be really careful, when i did the ones on my Pentax ME Super bits of the old foam got into the shutter and gummed it up for good.

That's pretty reasonable, where's that?

I did my late brothers Ricoh 500 G, I bought a seal kit of ebay and as already said used lighter fluid and cocktail/kebab sticks cut at a 45 deg angle.

The kit was pre cut and I found it very easy to do

Just received a reply from Jon Goodman. The kits for my Olly and Contax are $9 each and $2.20 P+P, so I'v ordered them from him. Thanks guys

This is his website, http://www.aztechservices.com/, he doesn't have all his services listed just email or phone him if you want a quote for a specific repair or service (like seals replacing).

He does mail order repairs as well, i've had him repair non-nikon cameras before but he said he's trying to stick to Nikon only stuff but he will do other service/repairs but the turn around time might be a while. His prices are reasonably to me, if i wanted a full service of my Nikon FE it would only be £57.50

Thanks, I might give him a go with a FTn that has a small problem.
