I was wondering when I change lenses on my 30D should I power the camera off or not

Not sure about Canon's, but the Nikon manuals always advise having power off.

I have also heard that having the power on also increases the attraction of dust to the sensor. Not sure about that but I always switch off to be on the safe side.

I always turn the power off - when I remember anyway. :D

always off... something about decharging the sensor preventing dust in. or at least thats what I recall reading. even though shutter blades are shut...

I always do it power-off out of paranoia, but I've forgotten a few times to no ill effect.

Off for me although I do forget at times :bonk:

power off - reduces the chance for the sensor to grab any dust in the air as its charged if the power is on.

Never bothered me and I can't say I've had any issues.

Off.....The static around a powered on sensor attracts more dust.

I usually forget though (Im always forgetting to turn the camera off).

So what we are saying is that I need a big sticker next to the lens release button saying POWER OFF ;)

I've never turned my camera off when changing lenses. I've also never had to clean the sensor in over 3yrs :) Maybe i'm just lucky :p

Mine invariably stays on. Never had an issue.

Better safe than sorry ;) Off you go.............:D

Off for me too - good habit to get into when you're exposing your guts to the environment :)

I presume it doesn't really matter if the camera is on or off, but i would say its good pratice to switch off the camera before changing lens.

I would say if the lens has IS/VR/OS then make sure you switch off the camera and wait a few secs for the motors to stop before changing lens.

You can take the lens' off?

Changing lens or removing memory card is the only time I power off my camera. Rest of the time it stays on but sleeps.

I try to remember to turn power off when changing lenses or memory cards but don't lose any sleep if I forget. Have noticed no side effects so far.

The only way to turn off a 30D is to take the batteries out, all other times it's on albeit in a suspended state when 'switched' off

I always have it off :naughty:

Doesn't seem to matter..

I never switch off before changing lenses. Never have the time in many cases. Precious seconds get lost and the subject may have b#gg*red off by the time I've messed about with on/off switch twice over. :(

So I don't bother. :D

Even with i.s. lenses. ;)
