Well I'm sick of BT. REALLY sick of BT, so I'm moving to Sky. I already get Sky TV and will be upgrading to HD & Plus as part of the deal. I'll also be getting my phone line with them. Byebye BT!

So, I have to choose a broadband pack. At the minute I'm on totally unlimited downloads. I can get this from sky, but I also have the option to go for a cheaper package giving me 40gb a month. Most of what I do online is forums, checking out deviantArt, email and the occasional bit of youtubing. Do we think 40 gb a month will suffice? I really have no clue!

I think the 40gb limit is the medium broadband from Sky. It works for me.

With Sky which broadband package also depends on what your local exchange can cope with. Sky tested my line and recommended the medium one.

I've been with Sky for over a year now. The wireless router they gave me was crap! After speaking to my computer engineer I replaced it with a Linksys super duper one. Works a treat.

Cheers for the tip about the router, good to know that now. I rang BT and told them I wanted to leave. They said I'm in contrct. I told them they've breached their own contract by not providing a good enough service. They said ok. Gave me my Mac code and I'm now waiting for them to call with confirmation that there's no cancellation fee. I'm leaving BT altogether, even for phone. I'll be paying about £41 a month for HD tv, phone and b/band with sky, and I'm paying over £50 for just b/band and phone with BT. And the broadband doesn't work half the time.

What Linksys router is it KOG?

I'm with PlusNet and on the account page you can check usage stats - I'm on the web loads either for work or pleasure, daughter is on loads too (we have a wireless network in the house) and including the bit that wifey does too we get through about 20GB's a month - is there a way within your BT account pages you can check your stats?

BT are useless, had loads of trouble with them years ago.

I'd rather use two tin cans and a piece of string than go back with them

Amen, I'll never use them again.

What gets me about BT is that they are forever changing their tariffs so you never know what's the best deal.

I rang to check I wasn't still in contract for the landline, and I'm not. Although I took free weekend and evening calls when I moved house last february, which cost me nothing. They've decided however that because that was an 18 month contract I have to pay £30odd to cancel, even though I wasn't paying for the service anyway

Is it easy to replace the Sky router, I always thought they were hard coded and quite difficult to get the info from it you needed to setup another router.

I am very tempted to move away from BT, currently pay about £65 pm for phone and BB. Can get the same from Talktalk or Sky for about £20-25 pm.

I'm gone Leaky, as soon as I get the call confirming they're releasing me from contract without a fee I'll be calling Sky. They've already given me a MAC code. Good riddance to bad BT I say.

i moved across to sky about 4 months ago, it seems ok, had a few brief outages but thats it. connection speed is better than i was getting when paying alot more for an ISP and tbh ive not had any problems with the router they supplied.

cant wait for the 'next big thing' to crop up with sky, then hopefully the HD feed will have no monthly subscription as i cant justify £10 a month

We're going HD because we wanted Sky+, which is also a £10 a month subscription, but the box is currently cheaper. But even with that extra 10 a month I'll still be paying less for the big 3 (tV, net and phone) from sky than I was for phone and net with BT. About 15-20 less I think.

Gits told me that was £9.75 a month :bat:

Just renewed my contract with BT.. personally I haven't had any issues with them. Broadband is now £14 a month for the unlimited package (was paying about £20 before), and they've given me 6 months line rental free on the telephone package.

All this within 1 call saying that I was contemplating on moving. Also they're giving me the new BT Homehub, and a new phone to go with it.

Happy days!

I did, it's the good old 'that's new customers only sir' scam.

I just moved houses...we had BT but now we are going for BE or o2 (same company anyway )

when i was looking to swap you still had to rent your phone line from bt to use the sky phone package ? thats why i went cable with virgin media, that and the fact that sky broadband uses the bt phone line system anyway which is why it's seriously slow and unreliable ......or have things changed these days ?

You pay sky the line rental and pay BT nothing. Not sure about the lines because TBH I don't know how it all works, but even if it is as slow at least I'm not paying as much for it!

the main annoyance i have with BT is that i took my calls away from them as it saved me money on sky broadband, BT now charge me minimum usage 'charges' for things that were previously free (1471 and callerID) the only way round these is to use BT for a couple of calls every month so i dont get these charges!

A timely thread as I too am fed up with BT.As Im only on freeview at the moment (having kicked out NTL a while back) the Sky package with High def is looking favourite.Im not too keen on one of those ugly dishes though but I will probably bite the bullet and succumb.
Pete.

They're not so bad

I think the numbers speak for themselves. £40 odd a month for HD TV (all channels apart from sports and movies), landline phone and unlimited net usage. BT was over 50 just for phone and net.
