Hi

I have a 450d with a canon 18-55mm and 55-250mm lens.

I'm thinking of selling them both for the 18-200mm lens.
Anybody any thoughts on if this is a good idea?

Am I right in thinking the 18-200mm lens is a 78mm diameter lens?

Thanks Tim

No it's 72mm, but then you could have looked that up on the net in 1 minute like I did?

Question: Do forums like this make people lazy?

I had this thought once when I had my Canon 1000D and both of those lenses..I.posted to several forums and the answer I got is to stay with those 2 instead of going for that superb allrounder..mostly because of the image quality the twins can offer over the 18-200..but I need a lens that can handle almost everything so I bought it anyways..guess what? It's a great lens..the image maybe whit soft on 200mm, but as u stop.it.down to f8, its reasonably sharp. So I say go for it..but that's just my opinion..and I'm a lazy dude :p

Cheers Tony.
Pm on its way.

well - bearing in mind the 18-200 is heavier than the 18-55IS and the 55-250 put together, and the image quality is not up to what you'll get from the 2 lenses, the only thing that the superzoom gives is convenience - not having to swap lenses. Personally I think the 18-200 is a good "holiday lens" but if it was one or the other, I'd take the 18-55 and 55-250 combo on the 450D. Oh - wait - that IS what I have for the 450D

Hhmmm I didn't think the image quality would suffer.
This isn't something I wish to compromise on, b****r.

Hate swapping lenses.

I have a Canon 40D and many lenses including the Canon 18-200mm IS. The image quality from this lens perfectly acceptable on the 40D. However when I tried it on a friends 550D the results were not so good. I can only assume that this is due to the higher pixels of the 550D sensor. Personally I think you will be happy with the results on a 450D, but if you upgrade the camera later you may have to think about better glass. This may also apply to your other lenses.
