Changing broadband provider

I'm toying with the idea of moving from BT to Talk Talk.
Any one know what happen about my @btinternet.com email address? Can you add a forwarding service until you've informed everyone?
 
I would think that on the day your btinternet account closes the email address is no more.
That certainly happened when I left my last ISP.

The way around that in the future is to use an independent email service like gmail that you can access from any ISP.
 
Mark the best bet as said above is to set up an email address independent of your provider, I use gmx.com.

You can configure your existing e-mail program on your PC to retrieve your mail from it using POP3 settings, which is simple enough to do.
 
If btinternet offer an 0845 dialup service then you might be able to get the address transferred over to that to keep the address - dialup providers on PAYG services tend to delete accounts that aren't dialled in to after a set amount of time (30 days or 90 days) though.

You could get a domain name before moving, tell everyone that address and then move. Or use one of the multitude of web based mail services (googlemail etc.)
 
I seem to remember BT sending me emails a couple of years ago about if I wanted to keep my existing email address I had to either pay a small monthly fee or use there 'dial-up' once every 90days or so.

As others have said, use a non-ISP linked account then you'll always have access even when switching providers.

I'd definatley have a shop around before settling on Talktalk though :)
 
talktalk ? are they any good ?? im using o2 (same as BE) and more than happy with it

I have a ...@btinternet.com address for years.
That is what I started with and for business purposes I still use it.
Some people said that even if you change your provider the email a/c would still be active. But I didn't take any risk and now I am paying £1.50/month inc VAT.
I am sure that you can call them and start this email only service if the email account is that important for you.

Just write an email giving your new email address, gmail is good and independent, copy to everyone in your address book and voila problem solved.
 
I switched from BT Internet a year ago, but seeing this thread made me curious. So I tried logging into my old btinternet.com (BT Yahoo!) email account and it was still there and had been receiving mail (just rubbish mind you). The account details state it is now a free PAYG dialup account which they must have changed it to automatically on broadband termination.

I have even just signed up successfully on flickr for a free pro account using it. So thanks for bringing this topic up :thumbs:

Talk Talk are offering free anytime calls and broadband with 40gb limit for £24.99 a month. I'm currently paying BT £42 for the same!
 
tell them you're thinking of leaving and need persuading to stay!
might "review" their offer!
 
Just word of warning, we changed to talk talk after being promised alot of "freebies" and inclusive minutes etc, 1st bill in for the month was over £200, Charged us for modem, number transfer the lot. I phoned to rectify and tell operator of deal we arranged and they said the bill would be deducted in next months bill, Of course by then Id be out of my 30 day cooling off period so stuck by my guns, Closed there and then and went back tail between legs to BT and AOL, Horrible couple of months altogether and not something Id do again in a hurry

lol 40gb limit ?!?!?!

I pay £10 for 20mb/s no limits...( it is with discount as one of our mobiles is with o2 - discount is like £5 or so)

plus £11 for a month for BT(just line with free weekend landline calls) but we do not use it anyway.

check o2 offer and BE as well for broadband.
 
I wouldn't touch Talk Talk with a barge pole.Everyone I've spoken to who has it say it's c**p.
