I really love landscape photography, it's what appeals to me far more than any other type of picture. There's nothing I like more than being outside with the camera on a tripod spending ages trying to capture what I see in my mind (not always very successfully :) )

Unfortunately I also suffer from a chronic illness. Most of the time it is held in check with meds, but from time to time I have a relapse and can't get outside for any length of time, certainly not long enough to do what I want. At the moment I am going through such a relapse and have been for a couple of months and am really struggling.

So I am thinking of trying out some home studio photography, because I can do it at home without the hassle. Not interested in portraits, would just be still life.

So what would you suggest for lighting? A cheap studio outfit or a couple of flashguns? Any suggestions and comments would be most welcome as I really want to start taking pictures again at the moment.

What about macro, I often buy mantis and capture bugs to take shots of, always let the ones go after, with scaring or harming them

Good call Dave, also look at plants ,flowers and the like.

Maureen has some belters on here, have a look around, there could be some inspiration for you.

I can appreciate that you thinks that is quite cute Dave. But from my POV,it is one ugly b****r..................:D

We need to see this vision of beauty then mate...............:D

Thanks for the suggestion Dave - interesting idea, and I do have a decent macro lens, though I would guess I would still need some sort of lighting. Think I would probably prefer still life though :)

Just an idea for you ........ when I was at a bit of a loose end, I made an "open fronted" white box out of foam board panels from hobby craft, just taped the corners together ..... panels were A3 size I think, but they do loads of sizes. Picked up a cheap LED angle poise (bendy neck) lamp, or 2 if you want to go mad ££ ................... bit of black acrylic for a base, and away you go, little mini studio, play around with the lights, use a spare piece of white board as a reflector, endless fun. I shot some of the wifes flowers ........ http://www.flickr.com/photos/davidlaws2009/sets/72157623977883607/ was playing at photo stacking at the same time , but I am sure you get my drift.
Shoot in raw, tweak WB dependant on lighting. then show us your results............. Tadaaaaa

As easy or as complicated as you want, just have to find storage space for your "studio"

Oops nearly forgot, use a tripod and release (remote or other)

Dave ....

Nice results from a simple setup there Dave - like the sound of that :)

is Ian Chandler still around.....?

sorry mate if I've not seen your posts

Ian is confined indoors and made some superb mini-studios IIRC

Thanks John - did a search and think you mean iancandler - looked at his website - some interesting stuff there. Looks like he was last active a week ago. Will do a search for some of his posts :)

There's lots you could do at home. Smoke trails, oil and water, paint vibrated with a loundspeaker, water drops, then of course there's those now famous frog pictures

Anyone heard from Ian yet? not seen him on here or else where for a while.

I suspect terri was reffering to this

isn't Ian Chandler member name "Iamanidiot"

Also isnt it "Candler" not "Chandler" ?

Got it. It was Ian Candler but he changed it to Magicaxeman a while ago. He last posted in April this year.

I still do think changing usernames should be possible for just this kind of reason :( you look track of people
