HELP!

As a rule I don't shoot all my images on one card, I use two bodies and a number of cards. But finally I've been hit with a dodgy card.

Now I'm using a Sandisk Extreme 6MB/s UDMA 8gb which is the largest I'll ever use, in fact I usually stick with 4gbs and I've never had a problem.

I got this card with the d700 I bought on here last week and used it last night with no problems. Formatted it in camera as always and started from fresh today, batteries recharged. Shoot went well. Came home to back up and one out of the three cards is failing. This Sandisk 8gb card.

I can't get it to show with my imagerouter reader nor my single sandisk extreme reader, on either usb port. Recuva can't see it either.

If I put it back in the D700 (and a d300s) it reads CHA and allows me nothing, can't delete, can't shoot to it. Nothing.

I'm at a loss really. I don't fancy spending hundreds of getting it recovered and wondered if anybody else had this particular problem and resolved it. I know CHA errors are common.

Try reformatting the card in the camera, I had the same problem with my d90 , reformatted in camera and it's working fine.

Doh never mind - I didn't quite read your whole post.

Just popped it on the d300s (again, tried that earlier too) to try formatting it in there as last time i put it in there i didn't consider formatting, just wanted to see if it would read there as it would in the d700 or pc... and voila it's showing 400+images.. i've decided to plug it straight into the pc without the card reader and it is currently copying the files over!! Weird science.

Thanks for the push :) in a bizarre way it helped me mate

Hmm, have had this with both my D300 and D700 with two different UDMA cards... a Sandisk Ultra or Extreme 8Gb, and a Duracell 16Gb. The Sandisk failed on a shoot, replaced by Sandisk, and the Duracell does error CHA occasionally but always recovers in camera - switch off ond on. I take lots of images and about 25 cards, mainly Sandisk and Lexar, never had any problems with any others. The Sandisk that failed, recovered files with some recover software in a reader.

Recuva is a great bit of free software. Its the first instance this bad for me but eventually it showed up in the d300s. It took a while mind. All sorted now.

I've retired that card. As it came with my d700 I had just assumed it was fine. Once I rescued the mages I tried to format it, it would only dovso in the d300S and then after it cha errored again and wasn't readable in the pc. So it's in the sin bin.

Met up with a friend tonight who also shoots with a D700, she's been hit with the CHA problem. She was shooting with a Sandisk 16gb card when it happened, then inserted another Sandisk 16gb card and still getting the CHA error MSG, I took her an 8gb Sandisk to try and same again. We only have Sandisk cards to try, we tried formatting the cards but still the error MSG shows. Is this a problem with the cards or the camera and any advice as to how it can be rectified would be great. There seem to be lots of folk on the internet with similar problems but we can't seem to find many solutions....
