I got a Sigma 120-300 plus gimbal head to go with my D300s for xmas and last night I stuck it all on my Redsnapper tripod. To say I was a bit concerned when I saw how much the legs bent would be an understatement.

It started me off looking for a new tripod which could comfortably take approx 5-6kgs of weight and remain sturdy. I'll be using it for wildlife photography.

I've narrowed down my search to a 3 section tripod, needs to be suitable for someone who's 5'9 preferably without the centre section raised and using a gimbal head and also needs to be light so preferably CF the only problem is I'm working with a budget of £150 - £200.

I've had a look on WEX and found a couple of Benro and Giottos which claim to hold 8kgs. Has anyone used any of these? Are they any good?

Does anyone have any other recommendations?

I have this lens and have been looking for a new tripod myself. Similar budget to yours as well but it looks like im going to have to spend a bit more.

The feisol CT-3342 seems to tick all the boxes and i will probably go for the rapid version of this one when its back in stock.

Can i ask which gimbal you went for,iv'e been looking at the lenmaster RH-2 which looks pretty good.
 
The Feisol range are very good, I've got one of the Elite tripods with legs 37mm dia carbon fibre and rock steady.

I went for one of the Chinese copies.

I know people turn their noses up at them, but I do 90% of my shooting handheld (hence the budget for the tripod) so I don't use a tripod as a general rule and after doing a bit of testing on it I'm pretty impressed. It was a bit stiff when it first came, but with a bit of graphite powder and a bit of use it's moving smoothly now.

I had actually been looking at the Feisol 3371 so maybe I'll go for one of them.
