Can anyone advise about any possible options for a cf card that has been damaged. The cheap tesco card reader has damaged the contacts and I cant retrieve any images from it.
Sods law it hapenned yesterday as I had just taken pics of our now dismantled conservatory, that is advertised on ebay(now with no pics)
also sons first nativity play.

I have left the card with LCE Chesterfield to see if they can recover them for me, just wondered if there was anything else worth trying. The card is Sandisk Extreme 111, they also suggested I bring in my camera to check that it has not damaged anything in there. I dont think so, because it accepts other cards, and seems fine, with the bad one it displays 'format' message as soon as it is powered up.

I can see how you might damage the pins in the card-reader, sometimes it can be a wee bit fiddly.

If you're lucky, it's just a question of straightening the pins again.

I can't see how this would damage the card though, unless a pin is jammed in the card?

Tweezer time perhaps?

Doesnt sound like the contacts in the card would be damaged... can't see that happening. If the data has corrupted (if card removed from reader half way through a transfer or card reader cut out mid way through) then the recovery at LCE will work. You could have done the same at home with some photo recovery software which can work really well. Often what happens is the file on the drive which tells it where all the data that makes up your photos is stored becomes damaged. The recovery software attempt to scan the card for the photo data and piece it back together as complete images.

If you didnt need the images, you would probably have found that formatting the card in the camera would have had it working just fina again, but of course it would also delete all your photos.

Could not format the card in camera, as soon as it powered up, just got format message on top screen, no functions would work at all.

Lce have managed to retrieve all the images, so all's well there, cost, £12, took 3 cd's. Excellent service by the boys there.

I did try to use my own Sandisk recovery disk, but no good.

Thanks for your replies.

Steve.
