Yes
Not bought one before, used SD cards before.
So which should I get? Is it important?
Disclaimer-:amstupid:

I personally like two brands, Lexar and Sandisk.
I had some very bad experiences with cheaper cards.
The speed of your card need to match your camera. There is no point in buying 90MB/s card if your camera is shooting 3 fps (unless its D800 :-))

Sandisk and Lexar are apparently the most reliable. I have used those for years (as well as Duracell) and I've never had a card fail.

thanks guys, I stuck with sandisk for the SD cards.

I have a 5DmkII, the extreme/platinum cards do 60MB/s it seems- is that enough?

More than enough, really. I'd say overkill especially on a 5DII personally.

Lovely, thank you- perhaps I can go for the cheaper 30MB/s then?

I would. The Ultra have a less robust build than the Extreme models as well as being slower, but I've used the Ultra's to shoot motocross with zero issues.

I've got 4 Duracell 16Gb CF cards and 2 Duracell 16Gb SDHC Class 10 cards which all perform to their stated speeds when uploading to my computer using a USB3 card reader.
I've also got a Sandisk 4Gb CF card (not sure which version) that I've only used for 2 days until the Duracell ones came from 7dayshop.com Not had a problem with any of them, all the cards have been very reliable and the buffer capacity of my 550D went from the mid 30's to the mid 50's when I used the SDHC Class 10 cards.

Can definitely recommend the Sandisk 8GB Extreme 60MB/s CF Card. Never failed me, fast & efficient.

Lexar and Sandisk are the more well know and popular brands, but personally I have now moved to Transcend and Delkin Devices cards. Never had any brand fail on me

Speed of the card has two advantages

a) the faster write speed of the card the quick your camera buffer will clear ( main use when shooting in burst mode)

b) The faster read speed the less time it takes to download files to your computer.

I did a test on my cards for the read speed to the computer, as you can see the slowest would take 5 times as long to download, which would be a long time using a full 32 GB card.

Delkin Device 700X Average read speed 70.545 MB/s
Transcend 600X Average read speed 63.339 MB/s
Sandisk Extreme 60MB/s 1 Average read speed 54.416 MB/s
Sandisk Extreme 30MB/s Average read speed 29.426 MB/s
Sandisk Extreme (original version) Average read speed 13.859 MB/s

Tested using Quickbench and Lexar firewire reader on a iMac

The only card that wouldn't work on my 1D was transcend, if you do a search on here you'll find Nikon users had issues with them about 2 years ago.

I use the transcend 32gb 400x cards in my 7d, have never had an issue with them or the speed in the camera or card reader. Considerably cheaper than the Sandisk equivalent.

As above, I generally stick to Sandisk or Lexar cards.

If you shop around you can get some great buys, make sure you purchase from a reputable source (I wouldn't buy from ebay) as there are fakes out there...

thanks for all your help, I bought have bought this http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002NO7PWC/ref=noref?ie=UTF8&s=computers&psc=1

loads of space

fair enough.

I would have probably bought a couple of these:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Transcend-3...2PD6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1334337738&sr=8-1

or one of these:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Transcend-4...4H8I/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1334337738&sr=8-2

and still had change :)

both work fine with my 7D for video and a high FPS rate for stills.

I use Kingston cards and haven't had a problem yet, pick them up cheap on mymemory.com they always have deals

I might go for an 8gb Transcend or a Kingston as a spare- I did read up on the Transcend and they certainly seem to have great feedback, although that was mostly covering the 600x.

I got a Lexar 16GB Pro x600 today shot with a 7D, 50 shots off on continuous 8 frames a sec and it didnt even stall for buffering well impressed

Transcend works perfectly well on my 1D IV as does Sandisk, Lexar, Fuji, Delkin

Amazon have currently got the Current Gen. Sandisk Extreme Pro cards at very competitive prices  I just taken delivery of 2x16Gb 90mb/s cards for under £80 each that's at least £30 less than any other retailer I've found  in prep for the arrival of my new baby :D 5D3 that should be in my grubby mit's by the end of next week :woot:

I started this thread about the cards, they also have the same class of SD too

I always buy 8GB SanDisk Extremes.

These retail at about £60 but you can get them on Amazon for under £30

http://www.amazon.co.uk/SanDisk-Ext...7Q26/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1334386514&sr=8-2

These give me a nice bit of room, and are not big enough to shoot for too long, about 400 RAWs, which means that at a wedding/event, I have to change cards, that way if one was ever to fail I would not lose all the images from the day, just one set.

These cards also come with a years free SanDisk recovery software to retrieve the files, you can also use this when you accidentally delete an image.

Thats good to know but I would like to know if any Nikon users that use these Lexar 600x as I was looking at getting some & selling the 2x 400x CF cards... Pref with a D700

I find the biggest problem with Sandisk is the price, compared to other brands, transcend for example which is perfectly reliable they are soo much more expensive.

I always used Kingston on account of cost but switched to Transcend - never had a problem with the Transcend cards. I have one of these and one of these plus some 8 and 4 GB Kingston cards.

I did have a problem with one of the Kingston cards once - it wasn't permanent and righted itself - and I can't remember what it was - maybe read-failure, maybe write-failure - really can't remember!

Transcend works perfectly well on my 1D IV as does Sandisk, Lexar, Fuji, Delkin

Sorry, should've said it didn't work on my 1DIII, gave it away so I'll never know if it would have worked on my 1DIV.

You'd have spent over £130 and still had change from £86?

No I wouldn't :)

This is what I said:

I would have bought 2 x £33.88 Transcend cards (32Gig 133x) = £64.64

which would give me change from £86

or I would have bought 1 x Transcend card @ £53.78 (32 Gig 400x)

which would still give me change from £86
