Yes
ok it might be a really really stupid thing to ask, but can a compact flash card damage/kill off a camera?
Is it possible for them to "fuse" the camera.
The onlt reason I ask is the start of the year my 300D died. I had perviously on many occasions used the card (a 2gb CF) in the camera without problem.
The day my camera gave up I had the 2gb in it, and now I have a worry in the back of my mind that maybe the card was to blame. As a result I am worried aobut trying it my new camera incase it was to blame and I blow up another camera.

Like I say it may be a stupid question but I keep getting told if you don't know ask ;)

Never heard of a memory card killing a camera.

If you are worried, lash the card and get a new one. You can get a new 2Gb CF card for £6 upwards. Wasteful yes, but then it would give you peace of mind. :)

I once had a CF card with a bit of sand stuck in one of the pin holes, bent a pin on my camera

Very true, but I do so hate waste. But I guess I would rather wast £6 than nearly £200. I just thought i would ask....................

I get the feeling the card is resigned to life either at the back of a drawer or a nice long holiday in the bin

the only possibility was something being stuck in one of the holes and its bent pins shorting the camera, other than that it should be fine

Theoretically the CF card could develop a short circuit which could affect the camera circuit. You would hope that the camera manufacturer had anticipated such a fault with a memory card and catered for it in it's circuitry though.

I believe there is someone on NikonCafe who's said that his camera was shorted-out while putting-in, or removing, a CF while the camera was switched on! Hence, he now always switches off his camera before installing, or removing a card.

I've taken note to that and now I do the same. Earlier to reading this I was happy to remove and install cards even if the camera was on!

My daughter's 350D was 'killed' by a CF card, but it was as described above. One of the holes in the card was damaged and bent a pin. £150 for a repair. Which was a b****r.
