Hum - maybe, but with my 40D shooting raw at sports, it doesn't take long to fill a 4Gb card.
It is not about how fast it fills up, which obviously will happen more quickly in burst mode, but simply about the number of shots it holds which increases the risk of loss.
Having to change cards is like having to back up a computer. A minor inconvenience that you will come to regret avoiding if the worst ever happens.
Where on earth do they get these RRPs from!!?? I'm always a bit suspicious of a shop that says I'll save £174 buying an Extreme lll 4GB. Sandisk's own website sells these for $99.99 !! that's £48.99p at today's exchange rate - so hardly a £174 saving is it? Are these the genuine article?
The UK RRP is rarely the same as the US price and often much higher. Then on top of that VAT is usually included in UK prices, while US ones do not include their sales tax.
For example, lot of people complained about the UK price for a Canon 40D being more than the US list price of $1299, but the European list price is 1299 which is equivalent with what a lot of stores were asking.
No idea what the official list price is for Sandisk cards, but when they were first launched something ridiculous like £200 for an Extreme IV would not have surprised me at all. Those list prices would also have probably been set when the dollar was worth a lot more that it is now.
But the cost of memory cards has also fallen dramatically this year. Less than twelve months ago I was getting a real bargain being able to buy 2GB Ultra IIs for around £35. Now you can buy two 2GB Extreme III cards for the same price! I think these were around £55 each at that time.
And yes, play.com cards are genuine.
