yours gwh

Looks like the wallet will get some action!

Good heads up!!

I've bought from mymemory/mx2/picstop previously, but none of them are as cheap as this, cause delivery is included!!

I remember paying £40 for one of these at the start of the year... Just ordered one, thanks :)

Cher Ching! Thanks for the info gwh, great deal.

Whilst it's a good price for a 2GB card, surely the 4GB at only £4 more than the price of two 2GBs is worth it for the convenience?

Where's that about, I could only find the extreme 4gb at £35???
£35.99 actually - as I said, £4 more than 2 x 2GB cards. Personally I'd pay the extra 4 quid for the convenience of one 4GB rather than two 2GBs.

The good thing about buying the extreme III is that you get a licence for Capture1 software which a quite a good raw converter plus some data recovery software. I just ordered 2 SD ones from play recently :).

Because if a card gets corrupted or you lose it then that is twice as much work gone.

As a general rule it is safer to have several smaller cards than fewer huge ones. And in this case not only safer but cheaper.

I normally get over 250 raw shots on 2GB cards with my Canon 30D, which is plenty enough for a single card. I would not want to use a 4GB card on anything other than a 1-series.

7dayshop is a tiny bit cheaper (as my Dad informed me after I told him about this)

7dayshop ones are 17.89 + £3.95 p+p so quite a bit more expensive

Hum - maybe, but with my 40D shooting raw at sports, it doesn't take long to fill a 4Gb card.

Horses for courses really.

Where on earth do they get these RRPs from!!?? I'm always a bit suspicious of a shop that says I'll save £174 buying an Extreme lll 4GB. Sandisk's own website sells these for $99.99 !! that's £48.99p at today's exchange rate - so hardly a £174 saving is it? Are these the genuine article?

Lol - I've just bought another 2 4gb cards, making 4 in total to go with my 4 2gb ones.

I agree though - I never use just the one flash card - but I've never had one go faulty either. I do stick with Sandisk Exteme 3's though.

It is not about how fast it fills up, which obviously will happen more quickly in burst mode, but simply about the number of shots it holds which increases the risk of loss.

Having to change cards is like having to back up a computer. A minor inconvenience that you will come to regret avoiding if the worst ever happens.

The UK RRP is rarely the same as the US price and often much higher. Then on top of that VAT is usually included in UK prices, while US ones do not include their sales tax.

For example, lot of people complained about the UK price for a Canon 40D being more than the US list price of $1299, but the European list price is €1299 which is equivalent with what a lot of stores were asking.

No idea what the official list price is for Sandisk cards, but when they were first launched something ridiculous like £200 for an Extreme IV would not have surprised me at all. Those list prices would also have probably been set when the dollar was worth a lot more that it is now.

But the cost of memory cards has also fallen dramatically this year. Less than twelve months ago I was getting a real bargain being able to buy 2GB Ultra IIs for around £35. Now you can buy two 2GB Extreme III cards for the same price! I think these were around £55 each at that time.

And yes, play.com cards are genuine.

....so why do they persist with incorrect RRPs? That's a tad less than honest. I'll give them a miss.

I've used play.com a number of times and never had cause for concern over price or genuinosity.

If you would prefer to spite yourself by paying more instead of using a reputable and recommended retailer over what seems to me to be a trivial matter then you are free to do so.

But for what it is worth, the 4GB Extreme IV was launched with an EU list price of €255 excluding tax. So including VAT that would be pretty much exactly as Play.com are claiming it was.
