How long should it take to transfer 2.5GB of Raw files from the CF card reader to the PC?

Transfer speed depends on a few factors, whether the card reader and PC are both up to the USB2 standard speed, and the speed rating of the card. I don't have any cards beyond 2Gb so can't give you a definite answer. And it is that long since I filled a 2Gb card that I can't remember. :D

Hopefully someone more productive than I can give you an idea based on their system.

It's a built in card reader on the PC. It seems slow with any card!

It is probably running at USB1 speed by the sounds of it. USB2 is 10x faster than USB1. If 2 USB devices are connected, they default to the slowest speed of either device, if they are both USB2, then fine, but if either is USB1, then they will transfer at the slower speed.

Most of the internal card readers I've used have been quite slow. I think it is just how the PC manufacturer has designed the card reader and connections on the motherboard.

You may get faster transfer speeds with an external card reader, but again it could depend on how the PC manufacturer has implemented their USB ports on your PC.

I have an internal one that's very slow despite claiming to be usb2, my external card reader (plugged into a usb port on the same internal card reader) is very much faster. I've been meaning to investigate this for a while but never got round to it.

The PC is about 4 years old and it's USB2

Built in card readers are a lot, lot slower than external ones!

I don't think that applies across the board, I had one previously that was just as fast as the external but it was white (new pc case = black) and one of the usb ports on it broke.

I had a built-in card reader on my Shuttle that was dog slow and even stopped working when copying a large amount of RAW file across from it (all card reader drives disappeared from Explorer).
Bought a SanDisk external card reader to replace it, and much faster and more reliable.
