Hi, anybody here know of a compatible Compact flash card reader that i can connect to my Samsung Galaxy S3 so i can back up images in an emergency??

I have a micro usb adapter already but finding a reader that works is proving a problem, i've seen many sd card readers that work but obviously with my 7d thats no use to me.

Anybody here managed to get this working on their android devices? (especially the sgs3)

Cheers

Steve

apologies if its in the wrong section, i couldn't see anywhere else more fitting....

Nobody here done this?

Am I reading this correctly, you want a CF reader that will plug into your S3 via a micro usb adapter to allow you to transfer files from the CF card from the 7D to the micro SD card in the S3?

Not sure if there are any CF readers that will work but you can get a USB host cable between phone and camera and use an app like RawVision.

Im not entirly sure why you would want o do that?, surlely just making sure you have enough cf cards for he shoot would do, besides that the write speed for a raw file to your s3 would be stupidly slow.
The other option is an eyefi card, turn on the wifi hotspot option on your s3 then the files from your 7d would be sent automatically your woukd need to remember, the max sized sd card the s3 can take is 32gb though

Cheers for the suggestion. Btw 64gb works fine in the s3

Yep thats right.... ive seen stuff on google where people have got this working with sd card readers but they've said its a bit hit and miss which readers are detected by the phone once connected. I was hoping this might also work with compact flash....

Fair enough at the 64gb, but you really woukd need to consider how long it would take to write all those files to the s3

I wouldn't be looking to do this all the time, but there has been the odd occasion where ive forgotten that I haven't uploaded the last lot of images on the card to the computer yet, and also and left spare cards in my other bag..... this could just be a life saver rather than something I would always do. And for the record im not talking about paid gigs here, I'd happily happily take a bullet if I screwed up like that on a shoot....

Thats fair enough, personally i would recommend the eyefi card route for simplicity

I think you're issue will be if the S3 has enough power to fire up the CF card readers electronics

It should fire it up, but my other concern would be the amount of juice copying the files it will suck from the s3.

Few problems with this.

#1 Power: The Micro USB won't have enough power to get the CF card ready to read and or write.
#2 The S3: Whilst the S3 is a powerful phone, even attempting to access all those RAW files or even the .movs for video will make your gallery crash, then the phone will crash.
#3 It's by far the most complicated way to do the intended route. Take your 64GB micro SD out of your phone and stick it in a portable file manager like an Epson P3000 or something.

Exactly!
