Cd/DVD drive issue

Wonder if any of you have any suggestions.
Got a laptop at home, when you go to play a DVD, it plays and freezes at 1 hr 20 (somewhere around that point). Doesn't matter what the dvd is, it happens with them all.

try playing your dvd's with another program or how old's the laptop is the player on it's way out if you have a mate who has a external (usb connect) dvd player try that to see if it is the on board one

What I'm getting at is that the laser mech starts on the inside of the disk and works outwards..

It isn't my laptop, it's the G/F's daughter.

Just spoken to her and it happens when listening to music cd's as well. It gets to a point and she says it then sounds like a scratching sound.

Typically, this has been going on for a while, then a week before off to Uni,I get told there is a problem (like i am a font of all knowledge).

Oops my bad, it's an acer aspire. Old one was dell.
