Hi All,

I am looking for an outside power over internet CCTV camera that would work over a home plug system.

Not looking for anything fancy or expensive as I only really want it to cover the front of my house/door so I can see who is there.

Ideally it should be one that is easy to view on my desk top PC and have apps available for the iPad & iPhone to allow me view the camera remotely

So does anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks in advance.

Take care,

Keith

Hi Hugh,

I want a system that powers itself over an Ethernet cable, but I also don't want to have to route a massive amount of cable to my router so would like to use a power/home plug system

Whichever way you go, make sure the camera(s) resolution is HD and has good night time capability.

Not sure whether you are running a NAS or not but the Synology kit comes with one license and you can hook it up to a range of different cameras.

If your router is wireless it might be easier and cheaper just to power the camera from the socket you were going to plug the home plug into and connect wirelessly to the router.

I had thought about WiFi but decided against due to potential signal issues

Quote from a guy on another forum about this

I am currently installing mainly HIKvision HD IP systems http://www.hikvision.com/europe/ for domestic and smaller commercial jobs. The quality is fantastic value for money. Higher end, I use Sony or Axis but that is dependent on a required application.

The newer HD IP systems are fairly plug and play if you have a little knowledge of networks/ip addressing.

As above I prefer HIKvision at the moment for value for money but its not a kit. You just select the best camera to do the job depending on light and positioning and the area of view. Combine the camera with the same brand of recorder and it tends to be almost plug and play.

You can combine wired and wireless IP cameras or as mentioned previously use a wireless point to point link to attached wired kit back to a alternative location.

Hope that helps?

I have 4 different cameras round the property, 2 are wired and 2 wireless. I have no issues with the wireless ones but because of the potential for problems they are ones that are within easy reach. I did have a camera a while back (on the a separate garage) that would constantly need resetting on wireless so moved it to another site on the house itself and it's now working happily as one of the wired ones. The other wired camera is up on the roof and that's just because it would be a pain to have to climb up there to work on it. The camera that's now on the garage is a Wanscam HD job and it is quite happy to work wirelessly.

Thanks for the information Hugh & Adrian, much appreciated (y)

I can recommend this seller ask for Fiona and tell her Andrew sent you , I always ask for DHL delivery 3-7 days and mark the item as low value so no import duties or tax and will always give you a lower price than advertised especially if you need a few.

Here is her shop. http://www.aliexpress.com/store/pro...R-DWDR-BLC-Network-IP/1152139_1671825465.html

PS: Please no lectures on import duties and tax evading please..:)

Thanks for your input but I have no intention of breaking the law

You don't have to break the law by buying something from Aliexpress just pay the import duties and Vat.
