Idly browsing through my latest shoot in View NX2 yesterday, first cull. Shortly after closing View, I noticed the absence of my folder 'Nik D7k' - all of it!

Long story short, not in Recycle Bin, none of the files to be found by Search (so not a case of folder having been re-located by an unintentional drag.

Back up? 2 months old! (Fellow amateurs - how often do you back up?). RECUVA got back most of June's jpegs, though the raw files were lost. Also recovered were all my raw files from the last two weekends. The month of May is totally lost, no jpegs or raws.

I'm blaming View NX for this, and it's made me a bit nervous of using it. I still don't know how it happened; that fact may be the clue - mind wasn't on the job. If View deleted the folder, where did it go ?

This seems strange as just had a look at my copy of View NX2 (v2.3.2 64 bit) and if I delete either a folder or a file I always get a message confirming that I would like to send the selected items to the recycle bin.

I don't shoot digital any more but when I did I would generally sync the folder tree containing my NEFS to an external HDD after each download.

That was my experience too; why I am mystified.

Just in case there's anything funny with my View, I'v just downloaded the latest version.

I learned a similar lesson the hard way when a drive packed up, I know use external hard drives set to back up automatically each day

Ian,

Not sure what you have to do to get 'An Idiot' legend, but how about this: this is around the 4th time I've been caught out with old backups in the 2+ decades I've been muckin' about with computers.:bonk:
