Caught for "Nikon" a load of cameras...

where do you pick up nicked cameras? I mean the ones the police gather (well mostly) they auction stuff like that off don't they

I get asked this quite often. There is no comprehensive answer, as each force will dispose of goods in different ways. Most do it through local auction houses after a lengthy period of time when there is absolutely no chance of tracing a legitimate owner. These are advertised in the local press, normally, rather than online - but quite often items are just entered as part of other local auctions.

The only universal website is Bumblebee Auctions, but to be honest a lot of the stuff is rubbish. It isn't very busy, either, nor does it receive stuff from all that many forces.
 
Interesting - I never realised that the cameras used in these applications were just 'normal' DSLRs stuffed into bigger weatherproof boxes - I always assumed they were custom-made for the purpose...maybe using Nikon or Canon optics, but a custom housing with electrical contacts in place of 'normal' controls...

I shall investigate further...hmmmm...(rummages in garage for cordless drill, hacksaw and jemmy)

I'll bet around here if it is a normal camera in the box then it'll be a Vivitar 2mp fun-cam or something like that :lol:
