My girlfriend is taking part in a fashion show this week, whats the best way to take some good pics I can keep??

thanks.

You dont say what camera or lens you have, if any?
That might be useful information in order for people to advise.

oh yeh sorry lol i have a d40 with the standard 18-55m lens and a 70-300m lens. i have a flashgun too with a ring flash adaptation, pretty new to this so lookin for advice!

thanks again

First I would find out if you would able to take a camera in. Then find out if you can get near the catwalk. Then...erm...find out if you can what sort of lighting there will be. There might be a chance flash wont be allowed and that the lighting could be quite poor, but that depends on how pro the event is.

All those points will dictate what settings you will need on your camera really.

What Jimmy says, stu.
Ideally I would set up my cam on a tripod, a bit off-axis at the head of the catwalk where the models pause and turn, and illuminate them wirelessly with 2 powerful flash guns, left and right of the catwalk, on their own stands, using aperture priority, ISO 200, and RAW.

Have fun!

Don't they call it a 'Runway' now?

I agree that Catwalk's probably more appropriate, fashion people being what they are and all.

'Runway'?
Those models hadn't struck me as Boeing 747s yet...
And I certainly hope they won't be running through my frames.

The cats are seated in the audience. So 'catwalk' is a misnomer too. They ought to call it 'pussywalk' or 'fannywalk'...

but catwalk is a lot more subtle and less likely to offend:)

runway is the term the yanks have been using since like forever....i thought catwalk was strage when i first came here :P!
if you had a press pass, they'd probably let you get quite close and use flash...but otherwise have to be just tripod and hope for good lighting!
