Yes
My girlfriends cat has gone missing for the last couple of days. We are both going daft with worry cos it's not like him to be gone like this. I hope he's only got himself stuck in a garage or shed or summat. Hope he turns up soon. :(

I had a cat 'missing' for seven and a half weeks over the summer - turned up safe and sound in the middle of the night. I wouldn't worry just yet.

I certainly hope so but I don't think he ever travels far and he is quite well known around his lil bit of Kelso. Theres Posters going up in the shops tomorrow.

Sorry to hear that, I know how distressing it is.

Have you contacted your local rescues centers yet?

Is the cat micro chipped?

Some people don't relise that for what ever reason their cats ends up ata rescue centre, the previous owners only have a totoal of 7 days to get the cat back before it is rehomed to a new family!

So get phoning. :)

Also post in places such at gum tree..... with a poster and image of the cat....

Better to be safe than sorry.

My friends in France had one missing for over 6 months, turned up in Belgium. Just as well he was micro-chipped.

sorry i dont understand, so you pay to get your pet microchipped which then links to your name, address (and in my case email address and telephone numbers for both me and my girlfriend) so in the event of your pet going missing or ending up at a vets (my vets have a scanner) or shelter they can identify your pet and contact you. are you saying that a shelter wouldnt scan a pet as it turns up and instead would wait for them to contact you.....

id suggest that the first thing a shelter would do when an apparently well looked after healthy cat turns up would be to crack out the scanner and find the distressed owner rather than start trying to find a new owner for it... a cat which is healthy in both appearance and attitude with clipped claws etc is quite obviously a missing cat with owners, its not a homeless stray needing a new owner!

I hope your cat turns up,chameleon, one of my parents cat appears to have two homes and goes missing for weeks before reappearing.

Best of luck Chameleon - I hope he turns up soon.

Has he been neutered?
My other thought is that at this time of year a lot of small animals are starting to get sleepy ready for hibernation. It's a good hunting time for cats and they can manage to be totally self sufficient without having to return home for feeding.

Do hope he turns up soon for you. Is a very worrying time for you both I know.

And where does it say that on the OP post? he did not state that the cat was microchipped! So that is why i stated the above!

In some cases the microchip moves in an an usual position and the chip could be missed as a result if it was scanned. They should scan everywhere on the body, but some only scan the neck, back and shoulder.....

I have worked in rescue centers and that is why i know......

Well, to save any arguements, the cat is NOT chipped and much to our chagrin we did not have a collar and tag on him as he had just been dosed with the Spot On flea stuff so we took it off for a few days. The local vet would recognise him no problem as he has been there a few times. He is a very distictive cat, nearly all white with a stripy grey tail and big splode of grey on his side (Hence the name Smudge") As far as we are aware, he never wanders very far away as he is always in and out of the house at regular intervals. Posters will be going up on Monday and she is going to phone the vet n rescue places tomorrow too.
Oh yeah an he got deballed a long time ago.

Id try not too get too worried my cat usually doesn't go away from house much apart from big garden we have at rear , but over the years he has suddenly just disappeared for almost a week then reappears so hopefully the same will happen with your cat :)

Sometimes they get fed by other people, think they mean well, but not a very thoughtful thing to do
Cats are strange creatures and hope he turns up safe and sound

Know how worrying it is, our last moggy sometimes took herself off for a while and that was out of character too

Our current cat pops in and out all day and night, because of an accident he has only got three legs (rear right gone) so tends not to wander that far, think he gets knackered more than a fully limbed moggy

Hi chameleon,

Sorry to hear that.
One of ours disappeared for about 6 weeks once and then turned up at 4 in the morning.

A call for you, not your girlfriend, to make is to the local council (City council/District council) as if the worst has happened they should keep a record of cats knocked over and collected. (sorry I can't put that any better). Best to make that call sooner rather than later as they only keep those records for a short time, and if you get a call-centre make sure you get a response time for a call-back.

hope it turns out ok.

Its an awful feeling, ours has done it twice. First time found her in an empty house for sale down the road, she must have sneaked it when the door was open when the vendors visited, and got locked in! Very very lucky I noticed her in the window. Second time she was stuck up a tree after a thunderstorm, had obviously scared herself stupid, ran up the tree and got stuck.

I hope you find him soon, check if there are any empty houses on the street, or any wheelie bins out, and go knocking on doors.

Not a nice feeling when yer cat goes missing.
I'm sure he's a cared for kitty who's as wily as ours, so hopefully a neighbour has fallen for his 'I'm lost and homeless - see, no collar' look and he's tucked up in front of some other buggers fireplace being fed poached chicken and fresh salmon to build him up.
Most cats are more than capable of looking neglected if it means being spoilt.
Hope he surfaces soon!

HAPPY ENDING!!!
The daft b****r turned up today, filthy n hungry. His mummy is very happy to see him again.
Thanks for all the good wishes and suggestions. :)

Great news for you.

Reminds me of the time my fiance's mothers cat went missing. Never leaves the house for more than an hour or two and hadn't been seen since the previous evening. We walked the streets, checked everywhere we could think of and no joy.

At this point I should make it clear, this cat does not meow. makes very little noise and only the occasional purr.

So having walked the streets and now fearing the worse, her mother went to put some ironing away. When she opened the wardrobe the daft sod walked straight out. Clearly he'd walked in and lay down the night previous, hadn't made a sound and walked out next time the wardrobe was opened.

I dread the thought of letting ours out but its getting to the point where she wants to go out and I feel cruel keeping her in.

Glad you got her back!

Great news, they do usually manage to get home one way or another...

When I went to work overseas some years ago, I (very reluctantly) gave my cat to a relative who had a small farm 26 miles away - she managed to hop it out the door the second day there.

She showed up at my front door, filthy, flea-ridden, scraped, bleeding and very skinny 40 days later....

Great news! If only the buggers could talk :)

we had that, then we started letting him out, he found it hard going with the other cats in the neighbourhood and ended up only going out at night, (accompanied by panicing owners walking the streets when he was out a bit too long!) but now hes fine, he has a morning, afternoon, evening and nighttime strole! he still doesnt know how to use the catflap!

Only just seen this thread but glad it had a happy ending.

We've got a stray at ours at the mo, the most stunning looking cat which we thought was our downstairs neighbours and were going to call the RSPCA as it never gets allowed indoors!

Turns out it's a stray that all three flats have been feeding and giving milk to for the last week, I suppose we should stop or it will never go home...

Last time I had cats we 'lost' one for 6 months although it did come home eventually, turned out it had lived at a house a couple of roads away, we only found out as they put up lost signs lol...

That's unreal. Glad she survived though.

Pleased it arrived safely, hands up who really wanted to suggest looking in the wheelie bin?

Is there an online missing cat site ?

I know you have found yours which is absolutely great news but I appear to have adopted a cat which has been hanging around the flats for the last 2 weeks.

She looks to be about 1-2 years old, obviously well looked after and most definately a happoy affectionate lap cat. Although I love having her around I know there must be someone else out there missing a very affectionate friend!
