Are there any cat experts on here? We seem to have been adopted by a cat, and a bit of googling suggests that he might be a Turkish Van, which is a pretty fancy breed of cat and quite unlikely to be a stray, I reckon.

It has no collar, is there any other way of tracing who the owner might be? I'll quite happily keep him, but if he belongs to someone I'd sooner return him. I'm keeping an eye out for "lost cat" posters but not seen anything so far.
 
You could take him to a vet who could scan the cat to see if it's tagged/chipped (a small implant can be injected intoi the scruff of the neck). If it is, the vet should be able to trace the owner.
 
if you take him to your vets they should be able to scan him to see if he has a microchip. if so, then they should be able to get intouch with the owner(s).

This would also be a popular point for people placing lost cat card too :)

haha yeah if you get him to stand near the tele you should also get pay per view as well :p I would have thought a fancy breed would be chipped, usually a grain of rice in size just behind the front shoulder blades if you can get that close :)

I'm not sure how easily you'd be able to feel it. My dad got his two dogs microchipped, one chip has stayed right between the shoulder blades as described, the other dog (the trouble maker :lol:) now has a microchip halfway down its leg, so they do move around a bit. It confused the vet when they went for their annual check ups and he couldn't find the chip at first :lol:

Our cat is chipped but you can't feel it. Not sure if it is just our cat or all of them. Good luck.
 
Can't feel our cats chips either.
I would be devistated if any of our cats went missing. He might just like the wander so maybe knock on a few neighbours houses to see if they know who's cat it is
 
i've just been through this. an 18month old cat arrived outside my mum's shop on a friday with no collar looking a bit malnourished, so i took him to the vet, no tag either. hmm... put up posters all around for 2 weeks while looking after him at the shop (couldn't take him home as i have 2 cats already). no reply to any of the posters, and no joy with the lost cat records at all the vets. so we asked friends if anyone wanted him and someone accepted.

now he's gone to a loving home :] dont give him to the RSPCA/BlueCross as they're overstocked at the moment due to people ditching their animals cos they cant afford them. they'll just put it down after about a month if they cant rehouse it - which i think is diabolical. if you can keep it happy and homed while you put posters out, do that. then if no one claims the cat, keep it or rehome it yourself :]

good luck with it - i love cats and will do anything i can to help one out and give it a good quality of life.

we are currently in the process of getting a kitten, we have found a 'small' charity run rehoming centre which have about 100 cats/kittens that they need to rehome.

Vans are nice :) and love to swim too ;D

most likely he/she got lost ... I bet there is some one looking for him/her...

You'll be surprised how many fancy breeds aren't chipped/collared/neutered/friendly AND let to stray.

Our local rescued rehomed a young Birman[under a year] girly a few weeks back! They'd gone for WEEKS searching the area she was found - no-one claimed her back and she had no-one who knew her from the area either.

Unfortunatley, as well, not many people know what avenues to take when searching for cats too - he MAY also have a home, and when he's not begging you for food - will be at home begging his owners for food, so beware - perhaps get him a cheap collar and either write a note and tie it to the collar, or write on the material for them to call you - and if someone does call, you know he's owned and you can inform them of his eating/visiting habits?
 
Cats do change their partnerships sometimes. We don't really know why, possibly something unsettles them. We don't have a cat now, but we had several in the past and they all got rather antsy if they saw suitcases and boxes being packed. They always waited to see what was going to happen next, but a visit to kennels meant several days of sulking, and an "I see you're back, but don't expect me to make a fuss of you after what I've been through" attitude when we brought them home again. They don't "belong" to you like a dog, and the relationship is completely different. I love them.
