Hi everybody, thinking on buying my first SLR camera, I am set on new and the Canon 600D, I would like some advice regarding prices.

Shall I take advantage now of the £50 cashback from Canon, or you reckon will be better to wait for the new 650D and hope the 600D will go down in price by more than those £50?

I can get a new Canon 600D for roughly £521 with lens kit or the Nikon D5100 for £480 with lens kit. Shall I go for it now or wait on the hope of saving a bit more later and put it toward new lenses.

My desire for my first SLR camera is clashing against my common sense on value for money.

Thanks a lot for your help

Edit: Some announcement been confirmed for June for 2 new cameras, and was thinking of waiting a couple of months afterwards and added Nikon info.

Depends on how long you want to wait.

Don't think there is a confirmed release date of for the 650D

Don't wait, if you sit and wait for a little bit of time all your doing is missing out on learning about your camera and getting enjoyment from it, take advantage of the cash back now and get out there enjoying your camera..

Historically Canon have launched a new XXXD series body every 12-18months as such I'm expecting the 650D to be announced within the next 2-4 months but I don't think that this will particularly drive the cost of the existing model any further down than the currently offered cash back level anyway, so again I say go out buy in now enjoy it now and stop worrying about what might happen in the future

Welcome to TP

Thank you very much Matt and Fla5h, that was the little nudge I needed to order the camera now instead of waiting to see if I could get more for my money.

All the best
