Yes
I usualy stick it on the monopod and carry over my shoulder but when i dont take monopod problems starts. I think its not a good idea to hang it on your neck/shoulder using default or optech strap.
I dont have any experience with sfuff like q-strap, black rapid etc.
What would you use to carry it?

The black rapid straps are very good, have used one with D700 70-200mm F2.8 lens, without much problem.

And i know of people who use one, with an camera and an 300 F2.8

I think an 7D with a 400mm 5.6 should be ok :)

Just bought a Lens Cradle for mine. Ordered from US and received within a week , cheaper than buying in UK.

I have a padded Hama strap, but the real support is I hook the tripod mount over the belt of my backpack - it is very secure there, fine for stiles etc and even for bending down enough to put the lead on the dog, and I really don't feel the weight at all.

If I attach my Black Rapid RS7 to the tripod collar on my 7D/70-300L combination, it changes the centre of gravity and makes it feel a bit unweildy. If I leave it on the camera though, it feels fine but I'd prefer to have some kind of added security on the lens.

I'm thinking about having the Black Rapid camera attachment on both the camera and the lens and running some kind of strap between the two with the RS7 attached to that!

The Q-strap works great for me with the 40D and 100-400L (slightly heavier than the 400/5.6 prime). However, you have to keep a hand under it at all times otherwise it will swing about and bash into stuff at your hip. This doesn't bother me because I've set the strap at the length where it's perfectly comfortable just to rest my hand under the lens all the time, not taking the weight but just keeping it from swinging around or lifting it up to avoid things.

 like this but with the black rapid.

Try reversing the tripod collar - it alters the ballance

is the join between a canon telephoto lens (one of the heavier ones) strong enough to hold the lens weight or do you need to support the lens too when walking around?

I've got a couple of Q Straps and usually only the 100-400 L and the Sigma 150-500 OS get attached to the mounting plate as they seem to hang better on me. The rest just get stuck on the camera body.

i hang my 100-440 canon off the camera strap..... is this a really bad idea then? should i get one of these other straps too?
