Carry your camera over your shoulder?

I'm using an Arca clamp on the monopod which uses a screw-knob to tighten - maybe I need to switch to one with a QR lever instead! :)

After having two instances of a Q/R lever releasing unintentionally I have never used one again, the Arca clamp is by far the more secure for me. :)

Interesting/disturbing - any particular brand? I tend to use a sling strap for my kit and only attach to 'pod when ready to shoot.. I was thinking I could save myself a little bit of time when preparing to shoot!

I know one was a Manfrotto but cannot remember the other as it was a fair time ago.
I've never had an Arca clamp even loosen slightly let alone open and that just gives me that feeling of security.

I find hanging the camera from a the peak design strap good for a smaller lens, but with a longer lens and with a monopod attached - I think it puts too much strain on the camera body's lens mount - it becomes harder to manage comfortably with the leg on the monopod extended too. I like to stop when I see something and make minimum adjustments to be able to start shooting - so that's why I prefer to have the leg extended.
I don’t use it with a monopod attached as the monopod sticks out way too much and I could injure someone  The heaviest lens I have is the Tamron 150-600mm but I have no problem using this with the strap.

Just ordered the Wimberley P30 plate for the 200-500, looks ideal and a lot cheaper than the RRS or Kirk replacement foot.

Cheers, I used to use Manfrotto RC2 and was never quite convinced by it, didn't feel overly solid. I now use Arca clamps, albeit cheapy ones and they seem much better

Little bit of a warning folks - I had a Manfrotto monopod snap in two while carrying a 1dx with a 400 f2.8L over my shoulder last year - it's a sickening feeling when 15 grands worth of kit drops from about 5 feet onto the ground. Luckily I was on grass and I got away with only £400 worth of damage (snapped the area near the drop in filter slot near the lens mount) - I've got a strap fitted to the lens now.

I'm not saying I don't ever carry the lens over my shoulder now but I do it an awful lot less.

For the long lens I’ve stopped using a ball head with the monopod. Monopod attached directly to the foot works well.

You'll have to let me know how you get on with it gramps :-)

A bit of friction tape or rubber tape on the top of the plate (or bottom of foot) really helps reduce twisting with single screw mountings.
