Yes
With the news of the Carphone warehouse and Dixons merger, they reckon it's good for consumers, as they will be able to offer better prices. It feels like the choice of where to buy from is simply shrinking, I don't always think it's good news!

I can see a fair number of Phones4U redundancies coming as well through this.

Strangely, Currys seem to be much improved over the last few years (in my experience), while CPW has become progressively worse, let's hope Currys don't get pulled back down to CPW's levels of service and knowledge.

Is this because it has merged with PC World maybe ? Just don't like the thought of limited choice, just soon there will only be a few retail places of choice, but little choice. When that happens, I can see prices start to creep up !

Currys, PCWorld and Dixons have always been DSG merged or not, staffs product knowledge does not seem to have improved but the hard sell on extended warranties seems to have gone, their prices are pretty good for a bricks and mortar business, and when caught at the right time their clearance prices are unbeatable.

A missed opportunity to change a dated name. Who calls mobiles carphones now a days? Yet they're going to call it Dixon's Carphone

do they not know you can take the phone away from the car and carry it around with you now......:exit:

Have to agree prices are pretty reasonable, I thought they would have gone up with the closure of Comet and the likes.

Was a catchy name way back in the 80s, but just so dated now.

I still have my Nokia P100, YES I bought it from Carphone Warehouse. The phone even still powers up.

The name's awful. The decision is probably good though, even if the market doesn't think so.
I'm surmising that Carphone Warehouse's relationships with mobile carriers will allow them to do fun stuff like give devices cheap 3G data connections. This might allow them to ride the coming wave of The Internet Of Things as everything gets data enabled.

I was under the impression that Dixons Carphone was going to be the name of the holding company and not the shops.

The only time I've been in CPW was to look at cheapish Android phones. "Oh, we don't have any cheap ones in stock, only the expensive ones and iPhones." Farts in wetsuits are as useful.

I remember trying to get a phone on contract from Carphone Warehouse years ago, I did try to read the contract in store but it was far too long. I asked if I could take a copy home to read, but they refused. I did not get a phone off them after all, don't think I have bought from them since. Not unless they have shops under a different name! I was always in Dixons buying something, I remember the local Dixons did have a really nice Camera display cabinet. I remember I bought a blank VHS Tape from Dixons, cost me about £14 I think it was, and that was pretty good going. Must have been bloomin potty !
