I've just ordered a brand new carpet from Carpet Right to be fitted in 7 to 10 days time (have all that time to give the living room a complete make over before that arrives). When I mentioned about it on Faceachebook, it turned out that they are under threat with adminstration.

Where would I stand if they suddenly do a BHS on me?

On bare floorboards...

I walked right into that one, didn't I? Hopefully onto a fully fitted carpet.

They've been under threat for a few months now. What they need is more people like you still buying from them helping them with cash flow otherwise the threat will more likely become a reality.

Indeed, the whole thing was done online on their web site with little fuss, just chose an approx type and style of carpet (not really fussed as long as it is clean and fitted well - has to be better than my current 20 years greenish-blue one anyway), then will pay them to fit it in and dispose of the old one come the moment. But for now, the race to get the room repainted starts now and it took me the best part of today to empty everything out, including my elderly mother. :police:

Sorry for the jokey answer earlier but, as you say, it was just too obvious to walk on by!

As Al1944 said, credit card payment should give you all the protection you need as far as the financial side goes and if does go sour from the fitting side, I'm sure there are other companies at the same price point but hopefully you won't need their services.

Fingers crossed for reasonably fine weather so you can get the painting done. Might be worth sticking some low tack masking tape around the skirting board to protect the fresh paint from the carpet fitters' knives.

:DIt was a good one, though, Nod. And indeed, there is a warm up expected for next week, although my west-facing living room does get quite hot in the afternoons so I might do most of the work in the morning, even if it means doing it in stages. While I will be glossing the skirting boards, I'll try and keep your advice to mind.

Do they actually fit the carpets though? every time I’ve bought a carpet it’s been fitted by an independent fitter who just gets the work from the store.. So providing the fitter gets the carpet to fit from them before they go tits up, you should be fine.

They plan on entering a CVA to enable them to restructure. I shouldn't affect your order at all.

Indeed, just came across this local news article: https://www.kentlive.news/news/kent-news/kent-carpetright-stores-set-close-1447595 which includes my local store. I've just rang them up and it's as John stated above, it'll still be honoured as it'll just come in from another store. But I won't rest until I can relax in my finished/furnished room. :D And speaking of which, I'd best crack on with some more painting (did the ceiling yesterday, it took three coats to finally hide the 20 years of mother's smoking habit - thankfully she gave up smoking 10 years ago).

Hi Tom. When they ring me up for delivery confirmation, that's when they'll ask me if I want it fitted and the old carpet disposed of and indeed it'll be done by that said independent fitter which I will go for. That's the one thing I can't do very well.

Oh by the way, the new carpet has arrived a few days ago . . . .

That seems to have turned out well :D
