Yes
We have just had a modest little windfall that would enable me to by a nice white Canon lens,SWMBO however wants to give the girls a couple of hundred each and fritter the rest on new lounge carpet.

Guess whose gonna win.

Buy the lens.

If you get in trouble - I'll swap you for my carpet.

Lens will last longer, won't lose its value and won't end up with beans curry and poo getting ingrained in it.

Buy the girls a new L lens and the other half a new carpet - sorted, everyone happy :D:D

whats the matter with you nige?

put your foot down man and tell her you are buying the lens.

Well that would depend how you treat it, we've heard about your living room antics

The carpet will take up a lot of room in your bag and be heavy and unwieldy. It will produces results with poor sharpness and contrast. You will find yourself constantly cleaning the sensor. You will be unable to get a hood for it. Despite it's weight, it has no tripod mount. There will be threads all over it but none will fit a filter.

You may be able to use it as an extension tube.

Classic! :D

On the plus side you may be able to get a pale grey carpet with a red ring around it.

Just tell her that if you do win the lotto all the money is yours...unless she wants to split the windfall 50/50 then you'll share the lotto win ;)

Buy the bloody lens, you know you want too, then buy a cheap crappy carpet it'll only get trashed in a while anyway.

There'a a lot of unmarried people on here.

In reality, it's what's hers is hers, what's yours is hers too.

I'm struggling with the forum for sale ads at the moment but the wife wants to buy a house so need to buy new carpets to help sell the flat then buy a sodding house.

I've almost convinced myself that spending out on equip here is insignificant to a house. Unfortunately its all out of the same pot of cash, and a small pot at that.

I feel for you.....

Nick.
