weekly Carol's 52 for 2012 Week 21 Random added

'Authority' - I really like your tryptic, it looks like you have put a lot of effort into it and a very original interoperation of the theme and your edit works well.

'Leave' - I really like the soft backlit lighting and the black background works very well too.

This is the second shot with leaves in and it is very well lit. ;) Leave isn't really leaves though :D

Hi Carol,

It's a very good photo, but have to agree with Alan.......It's just not leave!!sorry

Thanks Andy, Alan, Marsha, Mike, Nick, Alby, Neil & DK.

Hee, hee, maybe it is a wee bit of a stretch but I did ask Mr Google and came up with the following definition......
leave/lēv/Verb: 1.Go away from.
2.Put forth leaves.

......So that makes my piccie bang on theme! :D lol

It's all down to interpretation isn't it? As we well know some weeks are a bit of a slog, they just don't inspire.... this week i decided to have a bit of fun and play in my comfort zone... and I really did enjoyed taking the photo. I have another shot which is maybe more on theme..... it's ok but not great :(

Roll on Saturday!

Carol :)

Hi Carol

your 1st image for leave is wonderful...great lighting , super black BG ,locely detail in the leaves themselves...just fab

LEAVE #2....fab image , great use of DOF...that little'un is definately leaving mum & like the mono ....a great theme for you

Another leaveS shot ;)

That said I do like what you've (or is that you'f ) done here. Nice composition but most of all superb lighting. Well done.

:agree:
With Marsha, I think leave(s) is on theme.
Its all down to interpretation and this is a lovely take on the theme Carol.
I particularly like the backlighting, it really brings the subject out of the frame. Lots of detail in there too Carol, I can't fault it. Great work. Iain.

Thanks Michael, Lynne, Gramps, Peter , Marshal and Iain.
Hee, hee Peter....i promise to be much more on theme this week :D
We're off to N Scotland for a weeks holiday tomorrow so should be able to spend a bit more time than usual in planning the shot.
Is that the time?...must dash as i've still go a few things to do before bedtime.

Carol

I love your triptych for authority; truly wonderful!

Leave is a great shot, but I must admit I'm one of those who thinks Leaves is off theme. Still, it doesn't matter because there are no rules, and it's a lovely photograph regardless. The lighting is perfect!

Thanks Mark,

Random was quite a difficult theme, found it very hard to plan something....... so I went for a wander along the beach to see if anything caught my eye and found a shot that fits the theme very well.... maybe you won't agree though! lol I don't usually take abstract shots but I quite like it:D Again the 52 challenge has pushed me out of my comfort zone!

No I agree, it's bang on theme :). Putting my Grammar Gestapo hat on for a moment, the way I see it is this: If pluralizing a word does only that, it's fine (e.g. sweets vs sweet), as is using an alternative meaning for the same word (magical as in enchanting vs magical as in pertaining to magic), but if pluralizing it completely changes the meaning, it's pushing it a bit. Leaves is NOT the plural of leave, it's the plural of a completely different word! It's kind of a step too far; adding the "s" to leave makes it leaves as in "he leaves too often", and only then does leaves as in "from a tree" become valid.

The only exception I'd make is someone's interpretation of entrance, which was en-trance, and only then because it was such a clever twist :)

But like I say, who cares? These "rules" only apply to me, because they enhance the challenge for me. There's no reason at all why you can't shoot and submit whatever you want to :)

Again the 52 challenge has pushed me out of my comfort zone!

That's the whole point, though in my case there never was a comfort zone in the first place!

Anywhoo, I LOVE that photograph :) I could sit and look at it for hours; it's wonderful!

Hi Mark,

Everyone has a diferent take on their 52 and your approach has worked very well for you Mark.

Glad you like the shot :D

Carol

very random, I love abstract too

funnily enough I found this week hard too, despite the theme seeming quite straightforward

What's happening here... I commented on this last thing yesterday !!! maybe I didn't press the post reply button

That's a great find on the beach, real nice colours and textures, with random minute holes too !!!!

Love the duck pic too (but would be tempted to clone out or crop the white bit top left)

i have to agree with what you say about LEAVE I make a comment about someone being off theme and and they get upset glad its not only me who thinks about what the theme is. To me that is the only rule

Great work Carol, lovely abstract feel to it. I like the colour tones a lot too, great detail and patterns. I would be tempted to push the contrast up even further on this.
Good on you stepping out of your comfort zone. Iain

Random - It's amazing what flotsam and jetsam end up on the beach. You would never get any of ships doing that apart from the odd torpedo. I really like the rich colours of the bit of junk and the tortured and twisted metal. I think you can't beat colour but there are so many tones in it would be interesting to see a mono version. Do you have a context shot just out of idol curiosity so we can see what it is.

Nice take on the theme

Nick

Leave: Two fantastic shots, great work. The same goes for your random picture. I love the colour.
