Daily Carol's 365 from 12th December 2012 - A Year of Happiness

Hah! I used to hate it, but kinda got used to it over the years. When you get any combination from Connor/Conner/Coner/Conar/etc you give up and just accept what ever is written down! But I do like to joke about it now

I get Tony a lot... it's amusing... I think it's quite obvious I'm not a male

well hes only 18 and still touchy about it lol

Really going to have to try this macro business Carol, you have inspired me.

I keep trying Phil and have to remember not to move too much - have to try my tripod out with it now

Carol like it , and you will master the Macro Lens in time and I look forward to your shots later in the year and you will see a massive change and progression

Thanks Vince :) have noticed a bit of difference in them already - am a lot braver in what I take now

Thanks Matt :) TBH I'm not really struck on yesterdays either but time was (very quickly) running out and I was getting frustrated (lack of sleep I think) with them al so just picked that one and put it on .... know I shouldnt have :(
Todays was taken and I was quite impressed with myself as I not only used the macro but also the 2x macro lens from the 8.00GBP set I bought that wouldnt work on any other lens properly so I managed to get quite close in .... the leaf was only about 1" long so that was pretty good - not too happy about the amount of softness but learning :)

We all have the dodgy day's where we're just not that happy with anything that we've shot  so don't get too disheartened

disheartened?? Me?? Not just yet Matt  Cant believe it is actually a month already - Day 31 today :) Have to admit it can become a bit obsessive ...... 'whats for tea??? never mind tea!! what the heck am I going to do for my POTD?????' kind of obsessive  learning to calm down a bit now

Thanks Jake :)

Today is absolutely baltic here and it looks like we could have snow - not good in Blackpool as that means it is VERY VERY cold :( Suppose it will be good to be able to get some snow scenes but that is about all it will be good for

Yesterday I went out and bought some wild bird seed as well as a feeder and thought I might just be lucky and get a few birds to come visit ... I usually throw bread out for them but that isnt always enough. So armed with 2 butcher hooks (blunt ends by the way as we dont want shots of skewered birds :shake: ) , 4 Fatballs and the feeder full of seed I set about making a hanging bird food store :D Hung it from the washing line as that is the closest thing to the patio door and cats, etc couldnt reach it and waited........ and waited ....... and waited....... went to bed, slept and got up and....... yes I waited (again!) Our friendly little blackbird came calling but he pinched some bread and flew off before I could focus (so much for friendly!) and then this little fella came in and hopped about the garden ..... never touched the feeder just a piece of bread that had dropped off so decided to photograph him instead :) He came right up to the door and looked at me as though I was mad - did look a bit scary in dressing gown and slippers with camera in hand

Had to bring the temp up a bit as was very blueish but seems to be ok :)

I should think he was flying around out there all day!!....:lol:

Great shot tho carol and the waiting paid off:thumbs:

Thanks T :) He just kept bouncing about and it took loads of shots to get a few of him stood still but got there .... hopefully will get a few more of other birds :)

They're not as easy to photo as you'd think are they? Damn things move about too much. I prefer the grass as a background tbh.

Thanks Sarah and Lee :) Yes he was a bouncer Sarah and kept flitting from one place to another lol

Nice one, there are a couple of the blackbirds in the carpark I use for work that get very close to the cars. I was thinking of sitting in the car with the camera poking out of the window, but might get people thinking I'm mad.

hahaha could just see them all panicking if they were up to no good  - the people not the blackbirds :D

I agree with the green backdrop being better, makes him pop out a little more. And I love the little specs of something or other on his nose!

Thanks Conor :) Think it is bits of bread from his 'dinner' :D

It might take them a few days to work out that the food is there but they will come.

Well done on getting the blackbird - hard when they move about so much!

Thanks Lynn :) Well now he knows that there is food there he might pop back a bit more often as he did last year :)

I like them both but on the grass one was it shot through glass there seems to be a blue/cyan colour cast all down the left half of the image??
They were all shot through glass Matt :( Had no choice or they would have been long gone before I opened the door ...... thought I'd edited that one but seems I missed it. Added a bit more warm temp to the others which brought out the brown of the Sparrow and seemed to work ok but can't think why I missed that one

Its not a photo of a blackbird. Lol I should know these things, I used to work for the RSPB! I do know really!! I'm too tired...

I did actually get the blackbird but they were too OOF so didnt bother with them and stuck with the sparrow :) Its ok I understood what you meant :)

I can see the headlines now Carol.... 'Bread for Photos scandal ... Sparrow implicated' ...good practise shot. Like vince's robin the other week... Shame wildlife can't take into account background or interesting features.. Well done... I expect more interesting angles and locations though.....get a green box thingy ... They're all the rage...birds flock to them.. :)

inconsiderate little devils they are .... the Greenboxthingy may just scare them away though :(

A bit of messing about with a CD and a spray bottle of water ....... Macro lens still not working perfectly for me (that should be me not working properly with the lens I think  ) but I keep trying when I dont have the chance to get out and about

A few soft edges there but sharpened it and hope it has improved slightly

I like this one too Carol. I love water droplets! I'm hoping to get some form of macro lens at some point to play with so I'll be needing pointers! :P

Nice bird photos, Carol - look forward to seeing more as they get to know where the new best diner on the street is! Will you be taking part in the big garden birdwatch now? :)

I like your water droplets, some interesting little splashes of colour in there! :)

Ahhhhhh i need a macro.... NOW!!!!..... lol!

Love them carol and loving all the variations on FB :D:D

Love how the water has taken on the silvery tones from the cd.

hahaha and you ask me???? hopefully wont take me long to get used to it and figure it out properly - at the minute it is just hand held but will get my tripod up and working eventually with it :)

Someone else said that as well Vince :) CD with water spray - I saw it done on a FB page and thought it would be worth trying :D

Thanks Lynn :)

there are more on my fb with the colour - I think it is just the processing that I used that made it look silver tbh :)

Very pretty.

I must get my macro out and dust it off

I need a few more lessons in how to focus properly but getting there ..... Thanks :)

Well You know where to get one if you need one ;)

Love how the water has taken on the silvery tones from the cd.

I think that is the processing tbh .... they were colourful but I liked the effect of this one for some reason
