As a few of you might know I have been out of work some time now, and it is not down to not looking for work either, you name it I have applied for it. However after speaking to someone that works at a college for children with Asperger`s syndrome. I phoned the colleage and asked how I would go about getting into something like this as I felt it would be quite rewarding, they sent me an application form. There aim is to fulfil their pupils potential socially, academically, physically and enable them to rebuild their often shattered sel-esteem and self-belief. After talking to one of the tutors at the college it seems they are after people with knowledge of a variety of things or even just one thing. Photography is part of the curriculum which is a bonus. the college is set in 5 acres of somerset countryside :) I am not going to build my hopes up of being taken on but believe me I think this is right up my street

Cheers Keith, obviously there is more to it than just getting involved with the photography bit but I enjoy helping people out where I can. Hopefully there is someone on TP that is in a similar career role and could enlighten me more about the job.
 
A very rewarding job, but will be harder on your emotions than you will ever realise.
 
Thanks all, I am a very emotional person Ziggy not so much as I break down in tears, but you see I am a Pisces :) And feeling emotional is what I do best, it helps me to understand and weigh up people in a very short time, that gives me an advantage as far as I am concerned because it gives me an insight into peoples needs. I worked in a computer gaming centre for four years and we used to have a party of these pupils down twice a week for a kind of team building excersise.
 
I understand what you are saying.

The key thing that a lot of people fail to deal with when working with people with special needs is that their needs and expectations are different from our own. They will be happy with things that we would not be, learning to accept that and to realise that they are happy even though you would not be is one of the hardest things to deal with. You feel sad for them when you should not because they are happy. Is a very difficult thing for the mind to deal with, but I am sure that you can deal with it, good luck
 
i think there is huge potential for this course

sincere good luck and can i suggest a photo diary of your students shots when it all gets going.
 
Thanks again to all, I am now in the position whereby I have now been chosen through to the next stage of a job I applied for in the photographic department of a new Boots store when it opens in November :eek: interview is this Friday and part of that is an assessment on the shop floor, not that I mind that but it then puts you in two minds about things :lol: I suppose it is a case of

Best of luck for either of these 2 options Rich. On reading your comments here and reflecting on your posts and advice on TP, my feeling is that you would find the college job more satisfying.
 
I agree with Tom, especially as you say that you are a Pisces. The college would be an emotional rollercoaster but the rewards would far outweigh Boots. Best of luck anyway.

Good luck with the job hunt. Keep both options open until you get offered one and have to make a decision.Meanwhile try to find a book written by someone with Aspergers syndrome. Its a while since I was working and my memory fails me as to the names of the books but I'm sure you'll find them on Google.

Well I delivered my application into the College yesterday by hand, and have just this moment recieved a call to attend an interview next week. :)
