Hi, i bought my 600d from curry,s just after xmass, today i got an offer of a care plan thru my door, they will cover my camera for 5 years against mechanical faults, mishaps with unlimited free repairs and if they cant fix it they will replace it, anyone used or have this cover,
i,m thinking about it but i always miss the obvious, help
cheers
Dave

How much do they want?

These things are usually rip offs.

£149, i can pay it in one lump, 10 x £14.90, or £4.50 a month, doesnt sound to bad

Rip off. You're covered under consumer law for quite a time, and modern cameras and lenses have a low failure rate. Accidental damage is far more likely, and your household insurance may well cover this anyway.

If that £149 is for the whole 5 years then it may be worth going for. The 600D wont be in production for 5 more years and if after 4 years or so you start getting a little careless with it they wont find a 'new' replacement 600D so they'll have to replace it with a newer 'up to date' model. If you are covered with your house insurance you'll more than likely have to pay an excess anyway.

If the £149 is yearly then I wouldn't bother. I've had cameras for quite a few years (compact, bridge and dslr) and none of them has ever broken. I've got my gear all insured with Photoguard so I don't have to worry about anything.

Don't know how much you paid originally for the camera David but would you have bought it if it had cost £149 extra.
Totally agree with Jon it's a rip off.

Its £149 for 5 years, i,m not exactly the most carefull of people so i thought it might be worth a go, anyone sugest any other warrenty/insurance ideas,
cheers,
Dave

hmm.. read the small print VERY carefully before you choose to either go for it or not..... there is "you are covered" and..."oh subsction c in paragraph 4b..."

Like Lynton says, read the small print ... carefully.

At less than £1 per week I would go for it - provided the cover actually does what the headline attention grabbing statement says it does. Most household insurance policies cover accidental damage but not mechanical failure
