Getting a "Card 2 cannot be accessed. Reinsert/Chance card or Format Card" error on my 7Dmk2 with a couple of SD card, they worked a couple of weeks ago and can be read on the laptop.

Tried a quick format on my laptop but nothing.
Currently going through a full format.
Tried wiping the elements of the offending cards.

So far 2 of my cards (32gb Sandisk Extreme & 16gb Sandisk Ultra) are doing it, but 2 other 16gb Sandisk Ultra are working fine.

Any ideas?

Update: Full format did nothing.

Wiped the card elements with my finger, worked, took it out, tried the other SD card, worked. Put the 1st one back in and didnt work. Wiped it again and it worked.

So confused.

If all the cards work as expected in slot 1 and in a computer/card reader but are dodgy in slot 2, it points to slot 2 being the culprit. Unless you need an instant backup, I'd simply stop using slot 2 until it was fixed (IF it's the slot that's the problem.)

Is there such a thing as an SD slot cleaner?

I personally hate the idea of working with or tolerating a dodgy SD Card or SD Card Slot or both - it might fail at a critical moment and you have virtually no way to recover. My (sledgehammer) suggestion would be to stop using the dodgy SD Cards. Does the Card 2 slot work reliably with all other SD Cards. If so, then you now have a 100% working camera with all of its slots and 100% working cards. If the answer is 'no', then I would suggest that you need to put the camera in for repair as well as throw away any possibly faulty SD Cards.
I appreciate that all of this costs money but you have an excellent camera outfit and it is one that you should be able to rely on.

Slot 2 is the only slot being used, slot 1 is for CF cards. So some cards work in slot 2 others don't

I've kept the 2 offending cards to one side and will see if any others go "faulty", if they do then it's more than likely the camera.

Going to try one of the offending cards in my mates tomorrow to see if it happens there

Get yourself a couple of CF cards, even if you only keep them as a backup option for such times you have problems with the SD slot.

I prefer the cf cards. They seem to read/write quicker.
That said, I have the canon wifi card in the sd slot.

My guess however is, it's the cards.

Does the cannon Wifi card let you transfer to laptop? or would I still need to use a CF card reader?

Yes it does transfer files from CF to any wireless enabled computer.
It is a lot slower than a card reader but it saves wearing the connections on the CF card.
The slowness is a non issue for me, gives me time to have a cup of tea/beer.

Anything that gives me time for a beer is a win in my eyes.

Think ill give it a whirl then.

Thanks :)

It's quite fun to use it for remote shooting too.

Are you formatting in camera rather than your laptop?
