I've heard card readers are a much better way of transfering pictures to your pc (rather than say via camera with usb cable).
Most on sale on Amazon have lots of bad reviews and most i can find say they work on class 4,6 SDHC cards but i have a couple of Sandisk extreme pro class 10! 95mbs
Can someone recommend a good reliable card reader?
Thanks

Hi

I've a Sandisk Imagemate card reader and am very happy with it.

The Lexar card readers are very good aswell

Also consider do want USB 2 or 3 or firewire ?

If by 'better' you mean faster, then card readers may be faster. I don't know as I have not used one.

I reckon cards are one of the more delicate bits of photographic gear and I would rather trust myself to put the camera safely on the desk, attached the USB cable to a socket that looks fairly robust and connect it to the PC than swap the card to and from a card reader, but everyone to their own.

Lexar USB3 is excellent, i only have USB 2 ports on my laptop but the USB3 reader allows them to work at full speed.

i have a sitecom card reader which i picked up in a airport and it does exactly what i want it to do, no problems at all with it.

I bought the cheapest one my local Jessops had, I think it was about £6. I've had it for over eight years now and I've never had a problem with it.

Apple were kind enough to put an SD card reader slot in the side of the iMac which works for me.

I have a multi card reader that I installed into my computer. It's USB3, so very fast at downloading the images from the card and has all the slots I need. If your PC has USB3 built into the motherboard you'd be fine putting one straight in, but if it's USB2 then you'd need a PCI card installing first. It cost me around £40 for the PCI card and reader and compared to USB2 it's fantastic.
