I'm looking for a CF card reader, but the only ones I can find just plug straight into a USB slot. I want one with a wire on so I can leave it on my desktop (pc's hidden away) ready for use.

I also dont want to pay loads.
 
Sandisk Imagemate 12 in 1 reader comes with a neat desktop stand that you can place it in if req. It also comes with two usb cables, short and long, helps to keep desktop tidy. It can aldo be used without the stand on it's own.

Hi,

I bought one of these HERE only £4.24 with free delivery from Amazon, it comes with approx 45cm of usb cable but that could be changed as it is detachable if not long enough. I bought it at Amazon the same week WE were 'offering' it at £13.99 !!

About £9.00 everywhere else plus postage.

My Hama (as recommended by mikeyb) arrived from Amazon today,and I only ordered it this time yesterday.

Looks very good for under £5, its enabled for UDMA too for newer cards.

I guess you paid a little over £5 with p&p then. I popped mine onto another order with free delivery, so I'll be waiting a while yet.

That sounds good. I'll test it against the card reader I have in my floppy drive (which seems fine, but is a couple of years old). If it's faster, bonus!
 
Right I've benchmarked the Hama vs a USB2 DaneElec reader.

Time to copy 1.4G of JPEG + NEF (114 files), Lexar 80x WA 4Gb CF to Hard Drive
Hama = 73 seconds,
DaneElec = 127 seconds

The Hama seems pretty good :)
