Card Problem?

The amount of photos i can store on my card has slowly been reducing. i have a 4gb card and at the moment i can only store 197 photos on it where i used to be able to store a lot more on there. The settings of image size or quality has not changed.

Please has anyone got help or advice on this problem.

Is this still the case after formatting the card in the camera?

Try doing a full low level format in the computer (right click the card icon in My Computer, select format, and un-tick the quick format option) , then if that completes with no problems, do a format in the camera. See if that fixes it.
 
Have you done a reformat on your card in camera ?
 
Might sound obvious but make sure you take a copy of the photos before formatting the card in the camera.
 
The card is now empty all of the photos are backed up safely. Does anyone know how to format the card on the camera?

Out of curiosity, is it not explained in the camera's user manual? I'd have thought it would be.
 
I was just about to ask the same. Why does no one read the manual any more?

Because they have made it too long, added too many features that aren't required (or wanted) by most users & people are lazy....

I suspect the latter. They have an index you know.

Took me 10 seconds to find that on Google... I don't even own a D3100. That's gotta be easier that searching for and watching You Tube videos... and I also now have the entire manual should something else crop up.
