I’m looking for a camera mount that can be clamped to a half open car window.

Looking for clamp rather than suction-cup type.

It’s not always convenient, or possible, to set up a tripod in some situations.

Any advice/links appreciated.

I use a Kirk Window Mount available from Warehouse Express. Certainly not cheap but I use it with a 1Ds and 500/4 so it is certainly sturdy!

or could use a beanbag ? or have even seen some people using pipe lagging :)

I've used clams and they work well. However, pipe lagging works just as well (if not better 'cos you can slide the camera left and right) and its what i use now. Cheap as chips too.

I bought one of the 7dayshop ones a 2-3 years ago, it's well made and works. The only slight niggle being the adjustment lever is too long and gets in the way, I took it off and replaced it with a large butterfly nut and bolt arrangement.

ok im being stupid, can anyone link a pick of the pipelagging idea, i simply can't envision it, and I am going to safari park in next couple of weeks so will need something along these lines

Job done.

ErgoRest Multi Tripod - fits over the glass and braces against the door.

I use this one - very sturdy & stable. You can also mount a head and/or sidekick to it if needed

ahh i see so you are using the lagging to rest the lens on, as a protective cover for the edge of the window?

thanks for that, for soem reason i was trying to envision something more complex. was having a stoopid moment lol

:agree: I also have the ergorest which is also good for macro or with long FL lenses when used as a chest support  worth every penny
