Having now placed my own reg plate on retention and got the new log book it has taken from the 3 August to try and get the new tax disc and MOT certificate at least 15 days later and I still have not got it. I suppose being a government department having long tea breaks is more important than getting on with their jobs.
I keep getting reassured I can drive my vehicle with the new number plates on and new log book and insured under the new plates, but it is not them who may get stopped by the police and fined for not displaying the right road fund licence disc on the car or not being able to produce the correct MOT certificate as it was passed on my own personal plates.

It really makes one sick thinking of tax payers money and the hundreds of thousands of pounds these people get in a salary each year without proper training or supervision

UBoC IMO!

This happened to me earlier this year when I bought a new car and had to get my plate transferred to my new car.

I was stuck with the old car in the garage at my house , with my number plate on it [ didn't have the new plates for it ] and the new car at the dealer , waiting for the transfer of number to go through and no tax disk.

Eventually I got the phone call saying the new car was now taxed and the plates actually on it - and I then had permission from my Insurance people to drive [ keeping me covered ] the old car with my plate on it to the dealer.

I think it took over a month !!

This didn't happen when we had local Tax Offices - they made arrangements for the donor car to be inspected/checked and then you got immediate permission to change plates , pick up the new tax disk and away you went - this took about 20 mins !
