Car Suggestions?

Not a problem for me!!! Personally, I think the S looks more like a Maseratti than an F Type (and I prefer the looks of the outgoing XK to the F Type too!)
I'd love a Maserati but the running cost makes my Tvr look frugal.
As for an xk over the f type, well it takes all sorts, I think the f type is stunning.

In a world of speed cameras and 70mph limit do you really need a 155mph 0-60 in 5.5secs car ...
Oh man, I understand a lot of times the context in which you say things. But this is taking the biscuit :p

That are just sensible minimum specifications. Makes it safer to overtake ;) Heck it was a joy driving mine on the a40 east this afternoon. So easy to overtake all those slow little French cars. Combined with 4x4 it was a blast to drive, switch the car to fully manual and smile.

A neighbour of mine, she has a an f type r. Even the sound can give your tvr a run for its money. I do like that jag.

Ah but as Steve has said on many occasions, he is a reformed character, he did the crime, is doing the "time" And learned his lesson.

Aye the thing is I thought my Accord 2.4 would be enough for me but there was an occasion when I was overtaking a car doing 40mph in a 60mph, big safe straight so I went to overtake and he stuck his foot down as I overtook and I didn't have enough power to complete the pass so had to slam the brakes and fall back behind to avoid a head on from a car which eventually appeared the other way.

I know you can always say that you don't need to overtake but you can say these sort of things with almost any situation. After this incident I decided to get the Mazda 6 MPS which is similar to the Accord but with more power, but alas a lot of suspension problems.

With the CRV I've had to pass on many an overtaking opportunity (excuse the pun) and end up stuck behind a slow car for miles.

0-60mph isn't a huge interest to me but 40-70mph is and if SAAB had a new 2.8 V6 equivalent, low emissions and wasn't GM (not any more of course) then I may consider that. So the BMW does tick the right boxes.

It turns out the C350e is delayed and won't arrive here until late 2015 possibly early 2016 when the plug in bmw will also be arriving. I've decided I'll let it bed in first for a year or so and let the teething problems pass.

So, have my eye on a 330d m sport instead.

Just bought a new 330d M Sport. Fantastic car and scarily fast.

Annoying as hell that! I guess they think they are being clever, moronic more like!

Maserati Quattroporte, best sound of any car I've ever driven, it's a little like the TVR in that you just put your foot down just to hear the noise, back off, noise.
No idea why they put windows in that car as you just have them down all the time. The sat nav just needs to have tunnels and multistory car parks as points of interest - nothing else.
TVR sets off more car alarms in the car parks though :)

Lol I drove to the train station this morning and yet again a car alarm was going off in the multi story. That was the third time this week. It only, just dawned on me that it is actually my car doing that. Oops #middleagedhooligan

My poor dog went tumbling into the back of my seat as well when I braked. I got him a belt which uses the seatbelt system and attaches to his harness after that but he now has a bed in the boot. I don't know what some drivers are thinking sometimes!

I recently bought a 2011 320d touring as an upgrade from my 1series. 0-60 is 7.7s which is fast enough for me and also returns a very decent mpg. My sister's got a 330d and I must admit to be jealous of the 6pot engine.
Buying second hand also allowed me to get one with some toys like sat nav which are mentally expensive when new but don't seem to particularly factor into used car costs.

Now the secret fun is to see how many....

I've got about a third of cubic inches compared to you. Definitely won't win that game. It has also taken about 12K miles for my exhaust to mellow and get deep. I drive mine in RACE mode mainly such that all exhaust flaps are open all the time rather than just about 4K revs.

But ultimately it is just a four pot :( with a standard factory exhaust.

The funny thing is my wife and daughters like it now whilst they used to hate it.

LOL....It gets like PH on here more and more. Be under no illusion. Performance like that is very high performance, the level of Porsches only 15yrs back. A 5 series is a much nicer car than a 3 series in terms of ride, interior, and spec. A 3 series is a grotty car to be honest (inside especially), and I would forgoe the performance for the far nicer, more comfortable and larger car or find away to get a 530d.

Simply put, a 520d will be nicer a lot more of the time if you cannot get a 530d. But I'd have a 520d over a 330d anyday of the week

We all know that bigger and longer is better. So 5 wins over 3.

a 3 series is a depressing pile of over priced tack, same with a c class or a4. If you want a premium experience you need a 5 series, E class, or A6 minimum.

3 series is like a 1 series, tacky inside, horrid and cramped. Goes well and handles well, but it is a junior car, not a real car like a 5 series plus.

I'm not saying that the F Type is ugly, just that I prefer the looks of the XK. The only slight disappointment is the rather muted exhaust - a V8 should burble far more than it does!
Was most upset that I was denied driving privileges when the F Type and coupé were released - had invitations to both local events for test drives but couldn't take advantage of either. Might see if I can sweet talk Lorraine into letting me take one out at some point.

A friend of mine used to have an XKR definitely burbled :)

Mrs Nod's is an original '96 X100 4litre with standard pipes (and no R!) Barely audible unless it's being hammered and we can do precious little of that before it gets more than a little illegal!

Yes the standard ones were pretty, perhaps too, discrete...

Hang on, are you trying to say that 5 series drivers are bigger c@cks than 3 series drivers? ;)

Not are....have :P

Unless you go for the 760 as that is just compensating ;) Oh wait, I've had two of its predecessors

I've never even driven a BMW of any spec,
But I did have a ride in someone's M3 once

TBH I don't want one, either, I don't like this compulsory law that says you have to stay in the outside line for the whole journey.
I prefer to over take and move to the next available lane to my left.

Me too, but then it is the Nissan Micra's and Skoda's in the way who just keep to the middle lane no matter what...

And doing circa 65 miles an hour too ;)
For some inextricable reason a lot of drivers think the near side lane is for lorries only

It seems so. Oh and also that you have to indicate first and only then look to see whether you can actually move lanes. Or in the case of a bmw 3 series drivers (got to bring it back on topic :p) just go regardless like a Big Male W....

Proper car.
I've always had a week spot for larger vehicles....I hate being right next to my passengers, especially in the winter time with thick coats on and the like...

Me too, I prefer a quiet spacious car and a comfortable riding one along with generous range of seat adjustment and size.

Large cars give this, compact exectutive class cars don't really. Minimum size for a posh car is 5 series size, not the entry level 1 and 3 series ranges and equivalents which come with the running costs of the real cars, with none of the benefits tbh.

My new car budget wouldn't stretch to a 5 series, E class or A6 (well it did but I wanted a 3yo car, not a 5yo one) so got a Volvo S80. Its lovely actually, bans nearly up so keys going in the ignition and going for a drive....

You need London black cab. You get lots of space and even partition from passengers. Stick a big turbo on and you're laughing.

The only cheaper but big alternatives are the Passat, Superb, etc. I tried out Mondeo today and left pretty disappointed. It felt like an elongated A3 / golf type tin, or maybe like that C-class. Ewww. Passat it is for me.

Mondeo is a cracking car, very quiet and comfortable. Better than a Golf, A3 and probably better than a c or 3 series for space and comfort. Passat is a fine car too, practically as good as a 5 series for NVH in my experience.

Had a lift up to London in an A3 a month or 2 ago and it nearly crippled me. Came back in the s***box (Renault Clio) in more comfort. Would rather have done the journey both ways in mine though! :D

I found it way smaller inside than passat with significantly poorer visibility, particularly towards front / passenger side (bonnet is too far raised) and the rear. Not a problem on M-way but a huge issue in countryside. I've not driven it so can't comment on the rest. As you can guess I'll eventually home in on Q5 / X5 / XC60 but for now it is big estate time.
