Car show...which lens?

I'm going to a custom car show next weekend.

Going with the family so only one lens.

I'm not sure whether to take the 11-16, 17-55 or 105.

I'm edging towards the 11-16, but would welcome any suggestions/advice.

Personally I'd take the 11-16, I've only done a few car shows as truthfully there not exactly optimum locations for taking photos of cars, but nearly always my main lens used has been a wide angle :thumbs:

Nice one. I've seen a few car show photographs and do like the wide angle, in your face photographs that can be taken...just need to ensure no one encroaches in my space :)

I find menacing looks keeps people away :D
 
I always end up snatching pics at car swos. Very hard to get the iage you really want.....
 
A wide angle and get as close as you can to keep others out of the gap between you and the car. Even a fisheye and almost touching it. If the show's indoors, a fast prime will help make the most of the lack of light.

Just be aware what everything else about your person is doing if you do this.... zips on jackets, your bag etc. Remember: Treat the vehicles with respect.
 
I always carry as much as I can :whistle: Find I use both my 10-20 and 24-70 both equally as much. (y)
 
I am always drawn to ultra wide for car shots. Get down low too.
To be sure, take all the lenses you can comfortably carry.
If you cant go wide enough, panorama and stitch.
Prepare to be disappointed, unless you are a car-nut.
 
was at car show 4 weeks ago only used 50mm prime 1.4 had no trouble

This... have covered a couple of Goodwood Festivals of Speed with nothing but a Tokina 12-24. Close focusing is your friend.
 
Cheers all. Think I'll go with the 11-16 and sneak the nifty fifty in my bag.

I'll ensure that neither me or any part of my apparel gets near the cars.

If only 1 lens 17-55, I have the 11-16 and love it but 17 should be wide enough whike giving you the option of 55 too. Not been using my gear much recently but when I have its been car related, mine or meets.
