Dropped the CTR into the dealers yesterday morning for it's first service, and picked up the Jazz 1.4 courtesy car. :gag:

Got a call in the afternoon to say my car was ready but they were very sorry they'd accidentally damaged it! Turns out the mechanic had opened the door and caught it on something. In all honesty I don't think I'd have noticed the ding until I came to wash it, so props to them for coughing it.

They want it in the body shop for a week next week and at least I'm getting a Civic while they sort it out, and they haven't charged me for the service.

An old workmate bought a brand new MG Metro when they first came out and things kept on going wrong with it (surprising, not)

Every time the garage had it they dented another panel.....

He ended up with both front wings , the roof, the bonnet and one rear-quarter resprayed :D

Yeah at least they reported it to you.

Some garages wouldn't do that i am sure. Can you spray it and what ever needs to be done yourself? would be a costly job i would imagine

It's only a little dent in the drivers door panel, but way beyond my abilties to sort out. I'd have thought someone like Dentmaster would be able to get it out though - the paint is unbroken, so I'm a bit surprised they want it in the body shop for a week, but they're paying, so it's costing me nothing except a bit of inconvenience.

Personally i'd ask if dentmaster can get it out before letting them loose with a spraygun, they never look right when one panel gets painted, they probably don't want to pay for dentmaster to come out as they'll probably have the paint and will be paying the sprayer anyway so in effect it'll be a free repair for them

I know the feeling CT. A few years ago I had a Vectra SRi V6 which I bought as an ex-demo. About a week later I got a call from the dealer asking if they could "use" the car, as it had previously been used as a static role in a film shoot (I live near Pinewood studios). The studio were willing to compensate and I had the use of a new V6 Omega.

I got a call from them the day it was in use to say that somebody had reversed into it on the set, but not to worry, keep the Omega for another week and they'd sort it, which they did.

The only down point was that compared to the SRi, the Omega (top range exec model) wallowed in every corner.....

The Veccy was fine when I got it back the following weekend, and the Omega had been to Edinburgh & back, via Liverpool for work that week !!

Steve

They want to keep it for a WEEK!

I'd check the mileage before and after you give it to them - and ask your mates to keep an eye out for it in the area.

LOL. I've been a customer of theirs for about 10 years now and I think they know me better by now than to take those sort of liberties. ;)

It does seem a long time though I'll grant you - something I'm going to raise with them in the week.

Don't know if this is any help to you CT but i've been told that This is rather good

Oh sorry, better getting it fixed at the garage for nothing

Bummer!
But at least they had the balls to own up and are sorting it
and giving you a free service into the bargain

Brindley Honda at Cannock - been with them for years and in all honesty, I can't fault them.

the honda garage in chester is a bit of an odd ball, my gran bought her car from them and has superb service from them, including replacing a faulty ECU out of warranty FOC, whereas my mum who took her car for a service and wasnt impressed at all, trying to sting her with a bill for unauthorised work and as a result wont be taking her car back there.

good to see a garage owning up for damage they;ve caused, makes a change me thinks

Brindley are a good bunch.....at least they were when they bought my EP3 off me :D

their bodyshop is probably busy and thats what has caused the lead time

Definately!! Dont let them do paint work if it is not necessary. There are lots of PDR (Paintless Dent Removal) companies out there and it would take no more than 20 mins to fix at a cost of around 25-30 quid a panel.

Having worked in the motor trade for 15 years if a car has had paint it is easy to spot and the first question is usually why has it been painted?

I would get them to go down the PDR route. Dont paint it!

Tim

PDR companies can just about take any dent out so long as they can get their tools behind the panel. My Civic drivers door was creased above and below the trim by a fully laden hit and run Asda trolley, I was mortified as I had only just bought it new 2 weeks previous, my Honda dealers put me in touch with the best man at Dent Devils and he spent nearly an hour taking the huge dent out and apart from a tiny mark on the paintwork on the lower half of the door there is no evidence left of the damage. He said at the time it was one of the biggest he had tackled.

Friend of mine put his car in for a service while he went away on holiday, was a Subaru Impreza STi tuned up etc, when he got back it was driving a bit funny, so he took it in to get it checked out, turned out they had put over 500 miles on it, and totalled it and tried to repair it, needless to say when he found out, he revisted the garage that did the work on it and took them to the cleaners ! :)

Fair do's to your dealer for owning up though :)

very impressed they told you, nothing worse than having a ding turn up...

No2 Son had a look at it last night and he reckons it's close, but just about beyond a Dentmaster type repair. He's pretty clued up on this stuff, so body shop it is.

Holy crap!

People like dent masters can only repair if they can get tools in, so if its too tight, or the door is double skinned at that point, then its a bodyshop. Its good to hear that garages are being honest though and dealing with issues, instead of the usual bad reports. Dents in doors are usually from opening it too close the post of a 2-post hoist, we had one of our spanner wielders do it once, but luckily on our own car so we didnt have to tell anyone - HE wasn't too happy about the 6 months worth of mickey taking he got though

I had a small dent in my car door. I looked for paintless dent repairers as the paint was not broken.
Bloke came to look cost me £55. Can't even tell it was there and it took him all of 1 min to put right. With the right tools and knowledge it's amazing what they can do. Better this way than a spray job, especially if your car is metalic?

Well the job's done just off to pick it up. Fingers crossed.

good luck!

First class job. Phew! :D

Pleased to hear that CT, out of interest what colour were they matching?.

Milano Red - none metallic. The car's only 12 months old and it's garaged when it's not rolling so there's no paint fade problems.

I didn't realise how much I was missing it - just had a good thrash in it and I feel better now. :D

Even if there was any paint fade any good paint shop would match to the car not the original colour.
It;s always good to get back in your own car when you've not had it for awhile.

MY god im amazed they said anything but well done to them! if the work isnt any good - tell them to re do it and keep doing it untill your happy
