Just had an interesting phone call from the car clinic saying, as my rear window is the NON replaceable type would I like a new roof fitted or would I like to have the car written off for half the valuation price (£2550) plus my excess back but they would be keeping the car with no option to buy back?

Obviously I have chosen to have the new roof fitted as there is no way I could find another one in such great condition and this is also what the repairer has said to me.

I have decided to stay with my current insurers even though I think my premium will rise now but lets be fair, they have given me every option and have kept their word by fitting a new roof whereas most ins companies would have just written the car off, they are starting the work today and the new roof will be collected from SAABuk this afternoon.
He says the roof doesnt take long to replace but the weather sealing could take a day to line it up correctly, so all being well I may have her back for the weekend:thumbs:

You're not looking forward to driving with the top down in this weather are you.

That's just a first offer, Pete, you could always reject it and make a counter-offer of £2500 plus the car...

I could but I would like a new roof on it too and the cash in lieu could have been an option but then its the hassle of finding a roof and having it fitted.......thats why I have chosen the easy option, plus this is my first ever insurance claim and I am a little unsure as to what I can and cant do:shrug:

great news pete,

whenever I read about the car, i always wait for the But.......

thankfully it doesn't seem to be going to make an appearance

Great news, and great to hear something positive regarding an insurance company

Top down, heater on, can't beat a drive in the fresh air on these sunny frosty days, rear wheel drive(honda) just makes it more interesting.

Pete, when it comes to collecting the car, make sure you thoroughly check the roof fitting and sealing. Spend some time going round it and check inside and out. Send it up and down a few times.
Do this before you sign anything.
I have had numerous dealings with Car Clinic through work and I would say that I've probably accepted 50% of the cars on first time.

Kev.

I'd second that with an added, ask for a hosepipe and give it a good squirt to see if it gets wet inside.

the wife is selling her saab 9-3 cabrio, was great in town in Germany, useless in the sticks in UK, esp in this weather. slightest hint of a snowflake and it wont go anywhere!

Funny that, I drove mine in the first thick snow and ice and it was superb even with tyres designed for summer driving:thinking:

I know a few folk with newer (Post 2002) 9-3's and one guy with a ragtop and they are not having any more trouble than everyone else. It's not in need of new tyres is it?

None replaceable rear window? Now I've heard everything :shake:

according to SAAB the glass is not only bonded in bur the whole window panel is stitched in and I did look to see if there was any way the framw cud be cut out and another one sewn back and it would mean chopping a lot if the roof away, its probably too time consuming to do it this way

Anyway I am happy its having a new roof as another deep clean was going to be required once I got it back.

Guess what................The "BUT" has arrived, in the form of "The hood is en route from GM in good ol USA...........funny they said SAABUK had one in this country, so its another 2 weeks before I get my car back............this must be costing my insurance a small fortune

I was talking to a guy last night, he had a 56 plate V6 model, he bought it new for 25k, it's not 3 years old yet, he took it for a PX price and they offered him 8k against a new 30k car so the fact they're spending this kind of money on yours is pretty amazing, kudos to your insurance company

I havent got a clue either but I am not argueing with them:lol:

i wonder if the person that signed off on the work to be done still has a job

Lets break the claim down

First they had to send the valuer out to assess the car then the garage had to send in the valuation, these we take for granted but they do charge for this.
Secondly the second party who were going to just replace the glass had the car transported to Hull for assesment only to say it needed a new hood, SAAB replacements are £3500 + vat and shipping:eek: and then there is the 4 weeks car hire at @£250p/w

Now my insurance premium was £175 fully comp and I have had to pay the £75 glass excess and my NCD is to remain unaffected which I have been told verbally 3 times and have it in writing also.

A very expensive bit of glass I think

a very rough guess would be £7000  , and the car is worth ...............

Pete, just seen this thread and it reminds me of a little accident I had in my 1990 plate 900 16V Turbo, had the bump on Jan 19th, they decided to get a new body shell from Sweden, 3 weeks del. Guess what? when it got here it was the wrong one, another three week wait. Finally got the car back on Easter Good Friday.

Have fun when you get it back, they are a great car, saying that it would be very expensive on petrol at the moment, I used to get around 19 MPG if you were having fun shall we say...
